It’s funny how Children's music chooses you and not the other way around. First and foremost RJ and I are musicians. I am also an actress. Many years ago a dear friend asked if we would write a song ditty for his daughter while he was out of town to express how much he loves her. We delighted in such a fun project! We originally called it “A Lori Story Just For You.” We wrote a story and a song, totally customized with lots of singing interaction. The name of the child was recorded in the story and repeated many, many times. I must tell you that these were produced on a ‘reel to reel’ tape deck and transferred to cassette. Lots of manual splicing went on. The child loved the story and song so much that she wanted “Lori & RJ” for her Birthday Party. The very first Cotton Candy Express Music gig was booked. We’ve never looked back and are grateful to all the happy times and wonderful families that have touched our lives. That was 20 years ago. We created and opened doors to many of the venues that so many of our peers perform at today.
Through our performance and love of music, we always project lots of good energy and enthusiasm to the children. Maybe they will be inspired; maybe they will want to participate in music or any of the arts. We really try to make the kids feel like kids and have big fun at our concerts. That’s so important in the world today. We perform over 150 show each year and still totally LOVE what we do.
A little history...In the late 80's early 90's we began our first cable TV show called The Cotton Candy Express Music Show with TCI Cablevision in the San Francisco Bay Area. We were on-air with that one for 2 years, a different show every month. It took a lot of magic to get a totally empty studio looking like a decent set, performing the show, gathering up our own crew prior to shoot date...on and on...and each session lasted a total of two hours to the minute for our half hour show. Those were the days! Then we wrote and produced an Emmy Award Winning song for a TV show called "Animal Crackers." It went so well that were were hired to be the Fox Kids Club Hosts in the San Francisco Bay. There, too, we won many prestigious Media Awards for our work with children, including another Emmy Nomination for a TV Show and music called "Kid Power." Over the course of many years, we were seen daily between 2-5 pm and Saturday Morning Cartoons. We created hundreds of TV spots and intertituals, put our own costumes together, wrote all original music for our spots, and had an amazing crew to work with at KTVU FOX. We then went to another network The WB20 in SF Bay and stayed there doing our music, cute interstituals, lots of community outreach, and many more awards. We have been on-air in SF Bay Area TV for almost two decades...amazing!
As times change, the tone of our musical concerts and concepts change.
We hope the parents will be more eco-friendly and environmentally conscious in their lives. Many of our new songs are Green Songs with lots of messages for helping the planet.
With hundreds of songs and routines in our repertoire, we are never short of material. Once we take a look at who is in our crowd, we then determine the best age appropriate entertainment. From singing the “A-B-C” song, to the James Brown hit “I Feel Good,” to all of our original music; there is something for everybody at a Cotton Candy Express Music Show.
