CounterPoint sounds like many of our listed musical influences but if we had to pick ONE band that we "sound like" it could be SAGA, especially their early years.
CounterPoint was recently formed in February 2008 when I (Rick Kazmirchuk) wanted to head out on my own and start a new progressive rock original project where I could express the millions of ideas I had written over the past few years.
I first called Chris Noto to play bass guitar as we had played together in a number of projects including NRG and CERAFIM in the 1980's. He's got the chops.
Chris contacted Joe Pawslowski to play drums and I had met him many years ago and the percussive chemistry was there. This music requires a very strong rhythm section and these guys pull it off fabulously.
Needing a vocalist, the only person I could think of for the job was Jeff Morrison who was with me in CERAFIM for 12 years. Just wait until you hear him sing some of the new material, especially the new ballads I have written.
As of March 2009 after many auditions we FINALLY found our guitarist, Neil Harvey to write and perform with us. Neil found me on MySpace and his his page here too. Check out his guitar on the instrumental called TRACK 9.
Great thanks for helping Department of Virtuosity with spread the Virtuosity worldwide!
The 10th issue of Department of Virtuosity has been published!
There you will find 13 reviews most of whom are virtuoso-oriented albums: Epidemia (6 reviews of CDs and 2 of DVDs; melodic fantasy power metal from Russia), Lua Hadar (2 reviews; jazz with female vocalist from the USA) and Zonata (3 reviews; neoclassical power metal from Sweden).
The effects are available on: www.hmpmag.pl (please click the golden banner of DoV)
Great set last evening at the fest and it was also great meeting you in person and talking to the two of you. Father and son on the keyboars probably the most touching moment of the entire set.
