It's a bone chillingly cold early winter night on the streets of Chicago. The heavens can't seem to decide between a light dusting of snow or a penetrating frozen rain. Arriving at the scene of their performance for the evening are the four members of Counterpunch, who are greeted by an all too familiar foe. Three stories of steep, narrow, foreboding stairs coated with a generous layer of ice, no elevator, and 1,500 lbs of equipment. Let the fun times begin. "Well, let's get to it," Eric says pointedly, showing an understandable lack of enthusiasm toward the daunting task at hand. "Should I wake sleeping beauty?" chimes in Jared, referring to Richo, who's sleeping soundly in the van with a fever of 102. "Nah, he needs his beauty sleep. Let him get a few extra minutes in, he's going to need it tonight," chuckles Eric, as the first piece of gear begins its journey up the stairway at Subterranean. Not mother nature, not the flu, and definitely not the stairs. Nothing can get in between them and their chance to rock the faces of the kids forming the line outside, each one fighting for a spot under the awning. The whole scenario is a perfect metaphor for the way Counterpunch conducts business. Speed bumps and hurdles are met with perseverance and a dash of humor. In winter of 2006, the band teamed up with Radtone Records in Japan to release their debut full length. They self-released the record in the US the following spring, accompanied by a steady diet of touring and shameless self-promotion. Through their grassroots advertising campaign and a lot of hours spent in the van, they were able to sell out of the first pressing. Almost all of the CDs were sold off the stage, with some digital downloads in the mix as well. In the last six years, Counterpunch has shared the stage with the likes of Rise Against, Strung Out, Death By Stereo, The Vandals, A Wilhelm Scream, The Swellers, Only Crime, The Loved Ones, Much The Same, and Alkaline Trio and a bunch more national acts. Their sound is a frenetic punk rock with just enough artificial sweeteners added in to appease the ladies; as if melody met discord in a cage match and ended in a tie. Come experience it for yourself, live. No backing tracks, no makeup, no bullshit. Just four guys having the time of their lives, dick slapping you in the face with punk rock. Enjoy.

Believe it or not, we actually got more crap from the US customs coming back. How much could we possibly have done after not even getting in the country, and being on Canadian soil for like 20 minutes, inside the immigration office? I didn't even get a chance to wolf down some gravy fries! Total bummer. In a nut shell, we are home again after playing one show in Detroit. We met some great people, had a rad time in Detroit (for the night), and that alone was worth the trip. So as you can tell, we did in fact receive our masters from Fedex finally! I've posted four tracks off the new record for everyone to give a listen to, so I ope you have the time to check them out! As far as the release date goes, we're not 100% sure right now. We're working out some licensing agreements with a European record label, and it will be out in Japan in less than two weeks (Feb 10!). I know you're probably asking yourself why the people of Japan get to have the opportunity to have this disc in their hands first. Well, the answer is pretty simple actually. We have no label support here in the US. So we FINALLY have the master of our new CD coming Monday *crossed fingers* if Fedex actually delivers it this time. They apparently lost the last one somewhere along the way, which means that someone somewhere could be prematurely enjoying aome sweet new tunes featuring yours truly. As excited as I am for that person possibly liking what they hear, I REALLY WANT THIS CD IN MY HANDS!! So we just got our myspace page working correctly again. Sorry guys!! All the buttons stopped working, either because I'm a dumbass and deleted the codes, or myspace changed something on their backend. Let's just say the second one so I feel better about myself..... We still have a ways to go though!.... ........READ MORE IN OUR BLOG SECTION............ ....Tuesday, November 25, 2008 .......... Destoyed by Lions (aka the studio diary part one).... So we were able to burn through 15 songs worth of music in the 10 days we spent with Mark Michalik. Unfortunately we didn't get to the vocals, but we have some dates in December set up so hopefully we'll post some of the new sounds for all to hear soon..... The first week was all drums. Tuning, playing, more tuning, more playing.......... I had enough Ramen to feed half of (insert random small country here...) while El Richo supremo beat the hell out of his kit. The sounds we got are pretty stellar, if I must say so myself. Rod, Brian and I played plenty of Madden and NHL '09 while all this was going down, and despite my best efforts, I still suck ass at Madden. Always have, always will. The furnace was not working the first few days, so the studio was like an igloo. Good times............. ........Want to hear more?
