  • Bio

Bill Yates was a member of The Country Gentlemen from 1969-1989, recording 17 projects with the group and traveling the world over. He's received numerous awards for his work with not only the "Gents" but also with Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin and Red Allen. Most recently, Bill has been dubbed as "The Ambassador Of Bluegrass" by not only his adoring fans but by promoters and fellow musicians alike. ********** Bill Yates and Friends "A Tribute To The Country Gentlemen" is the result of the love of the "Real" Country Gentlemen music and an impromptu jam session. In 2005, as he was attending the Cabin Fever Picking Party in Hampton, VA, Bill ran into Darren Beachley and David Propst. The three got into an informal jam session and began singing Country Gentlemen songs. That night, the idea to recreate the Country Gentlemen's music and sound was born. Darren and David made Bill aware of Mike Phipps and how much he vocally sounded like the legendary Charlie Waller. A short time later, after a short audition, it was a fore gone conclusion that Mike be included on the recording. The project was finally completed and released in December 2006 on the MasterShield Records label, out of Bridgewater, VA and became an instantaneous hit (FYI update: "Tribute 2" will be officially hitting the streets as of Sept. 11, 2009 - don't wait, contact us and order yours TODAY!!!). ********** After deciding to take the recreated sound on the road in tribute, Bill Yates & the Country Gentlemen Tribute Band always look forward to performing their recreated "Country Gentlemen" sound out not only in honor of bluegrass icon, Charlie Waller, but also because everyone in the band continue to be huge fans; proudly proclaiming that the "Country Gentlemen" were one of the most influential bluegrass groups in this or any other era. So be invited to witness for yourself in awe; close your eyes and be taken back to yester-year the jaw dropping show that everyone's been talking about; the phenomena that is, "The Country Gentlemen - A Tribute." ..............
