Those are lyrics from a song I wrote about a very special boy I met here in Nashville who was undergoing cancer treatment at Vanderbilt University Children's Hospital. After meeting this boy and his mom once, it was obvious to me that she found her strength and courage in him. He was only four years old, but full of the kind of hope and honesty that often only children posess. We can learn so much about ourselves and the world through a child's simple and innocent perspective. "When I was contacted by Chuck Lindley about having my music be a part of Country-N-RockAlliance, I was immediately inspired to help out. Reading of the terrible tragedy his son, Mason, and their family went through, and the other children who face their own medical challenges every day really touched my heart. When I was 12 years old I had major back surgery to correct scoliosis at the Vancouver Children's Hospital and had many subsequent trips back there for check-ups. My little sister, Chantal had the very same surgery there 4 years later. We are both very thankful to all the medical staff there, who without their help, would probably have a lot of back pain now. Also, being a mother of two little ones, Lauryn, 3 years, and Emily 8 months, this cause has an extra special place in my heart as I am glad to know that if they ever needed medical help, there is hope in the wonderful organizations like this one, and the many hospitals, charities and giving people out there ready and willing to lend a hand. Just hearing that person's voice or that song they love can make them feel better. It may only be for the three or four minutes - whatever the length of the song may be, but it makes them feel better. There are songs out there for any situation that you may be facing and hearing a certain song can make you feel like you are not the only one who has gone through this. Someone else has faced this too and they made it through. I'm going to be alright after all. Country-N-Rock Alliance is a musical outreach of the Mason Lindley Miracle Foundation where musicians unite to share their heart,compassion and talent to help children facing medical challenges. I know what their contributions mean on a personal level as my son, Mason, was a miraculous survivor of a tragic accident involving a riding lawnmower. His story is the passion that drives me to make miracles possible for other children who; along with their parents; face the fear of the unknown. Whether they face chronic or unexpected illness or even tragedy from accidents, these families all seek hope. The courage of these children can truly inspire and bless those around them. The artists involved in Country-N-Rock Alliance have received that blessing and inspiration from Mason's story. Now they are ready to turn the music world on its ear and become difference makers in the lives of many more children. The intent of Country-N-Rock Alliance is to advocate and support medically related children's charites. The hope is to support through profits from compilation cd's, selected performances and by volunteering time and talent to organizations that focus on both the children and ther families.
