Sewing and designing my own clothes, vintage collectibles (anything mid-century), orchestral rock music, graphic novels and manga (that near bankruptcy-inducing black hole of a hobby), dark comedies
Music
David Byrne, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Getz and Gilberto, Billy May, Squeeze, Led Zeppelin, Goldfrapp, XTC, Aimee Mann, The Pretenders, Prince, Queen, Grant Lee Buffalo, Public Enemy
XTC's "Burning With Optimism's Flames" live concert in Germany, Rockpalast (1982) - Finally, someone's posted a live version of one of my faves. Dave's lead guitar work, Colin's cool man pluckings and Andy's ever-climbing vocals are exhausting, but satisfying to watch. "You can burn, too."
Movies
The Philadelphia Story, About A Boy, Sideways, Ghost World, American Splendor, This Is Spinal Tap, The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years, Best In Show, Aliens, Primary Colors, Children of Men, To Live, The Last Emperor, Farewell My Concubine, Hard Boiled, Se7en, Iron Man
Goldfrapp's "Human" - Angry that Jack White and Alicia Keys are doing the next James Bond theme song? I am. Watch Alison Goldfrapp perform this kicker and you might feel better. Or just more upset. Whichever way, she rocks.
Television
The Office, Swingtown, Visiting with Huell Howser, "Pwojekt Wunway" (phonetically-spelled the Heidi Klum way)
Have Tina Fey and Sarah Palin ever been seen together, because these acid-burned eyes need proof. My fave line? Poehler as Hillary: "I scratched and clawed...and you just glided in on your dog sled in your pageant sash and Tina Fey glasses!" Poehler's rant is what many Americans want to say. TV writers everywhere: be our balls, because god knows the Dems refuse to use theirs.
Books
A Thousand Splendid Suns, The Host, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, The Stand; The Sandman, Kabuki and The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service series; anything by Kazuo Koike,
Heroes
Andy Partridge, Freddie Mercury, Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Iris Chang
You posses a great deal of wisdom and the ability to see people for who they are.
You are always looking ahead at the future, developing visions.
A loner, you tend to travel by yourself through life, seeking your own truth.
You don't crave material things or fancy titles. You have no baggage.
Your fortune:
It's possible that there is a unknown guiding figure in your life, ready to help you.
All you have to do is find this person and seek their advice.
It's also possible that you need to start seeking the meaning of your own life.
Either way, there's some deep thinking you need to undertake, and it needs to be done soon.
Who I'd like to meet: Friends: People I've lost touch with with all the crazy moving around, bands/musicians who are influenced by my faves. (With all due respect to pervs, while I'm flattered you want to add me, trust me, I'm not your type!) Since my faves don't include heavy metal, that means NO heavy metal. I have nothing against the music, it's just not my taste.
Networking: If you're trying to sell me on a job or free anything, please move on. Ditto if you're promoting anything to single people. I'm an exhausted working mom with a job I already like and I rarely get out. Although if you're an XTC tribute band, or something of that nature, I might take that no-no double shot of espresso, shell out the cash for a babysitter, and come see you.
OK, so I'm not the only one who thinks the latest batch of PR hopefuls are a bunch of skidmarks.
Prove me wrong, kids.. prove me wrong.
In other news.. turns out that I tore a bit of my Trapezius.. ouch, mommy.. I decided that I was feeling the Vico too much, so I'm flying solo the last couple of days..is it too early in the day for a vodka and tonic, do ya think?
Actually, I have to admit, it was the second time through for me, but with an older brain. The only Stephen King to top it is the amazing Dark Tower series.
Merry Crimble, sweet Kim.. and may the new year bring you and yours much peace, joy, and most of all, love. (Resolution on that freaking strike wouldn't hurt, either!)
