DIE ALTEN MASCHINEN
To Be Or Not
w/ Gerald V. Casale of DEVO
(X Production, 2008)
Die alten Maschinen are, despite their name, a new band which comes with music that can, without any exaggeration, be called 'robot pop'.
In their ideology, Die alten Maschinen are a project about machines which are friendly to people, about technologies which do not present any threat, which are designed to help humankind. The project is also meant to be a tribute to all dreamers, inventors and writers of the early idealistic sci-fi books, a tribute to the times when dreaming about the future was a joy.
The band consists of two musicians from the Czech Republic, Moimir Papalescu on electronic instruments and a saxophonist Petr Venkrbec, the overseas member is a Canadian singer and drummer Leon Stevenson and there is also the member of Devo, Gerald V. Casale.
The first fruit of this collaboration is the first single 'To Be Or Not', now released electronically as a download on iTunes and other servers (Amazon, Napster, etc). Along with the original song, there are mixes by the band members and by Czech DJ legend Pavel Bidlo.
Nov. 1st, 2008 is the release date of a special vinyl edition of the single, with original illustrations by top Czech comics artist Adolf Lachman. Vinyl will be available via a special website.
