Ukulele: Herb Ohta-San, Benny Chong, Lyle Ritz and the numerous island players. For solo jazz: I worship Joe Pass, hoping to glean a millionth of his talent. I'm also deeply influenced by Earl Klugh. For arranging: My mentor, Howard Heitmeyer, whose talent and musical genius never cease to mystify me.
I listen to and enjoy nearly all kinds of music including: Beatles, Carlos Antonio Jobim, Joe Pass, Chick Corea, early Bob Dylan, nearly all of the rock and soul from the 1960's and 1970's. From the Supremes to the Moody Blues to B.B. King to Cat Stevens. I also love WAR and Tower of Power, and all kinds of Latin music. I also love Hawaiian, lots of Country (esp. Country Swing) and classical. I'm eclectic, to say the least. |
