Out on July 15: "BLACK (Theme From The Film)"
by MC Jean Gab'1 and Tony Allen
"BLACK", a great neo-Blaxploitation film set in Dakar and starring rapper MC Jean Gab'1, is opening in French cinemas on July 15. Described as "a modern update of Shaft in Africa… Gloriously lunatic", the film was warmly welcomed at SXSW.
Released as a single in July, the theme song is a driving Afrobeat track written & recorded by Tony Allen and featuring the inimitable vocal stylings of MC Jean Gab'1.
The full soundtrack album (featuring gems from the '70s as well as contemporary tracks) is due for release in September

"The Mockumentary" seeks to illuminate the conspiracy theories surrounding the musical identity of Mocky. Featuring interviews and appearances by some of the musicians who know him best, Gonzales, Jamie Lidell, Feist, Peaches, Taylor Savvy, Kevin Blechdom, and hosted by the musicologist Dr. Thomas Strauss, " The Mockumentary " is a hilarious short film announcing "Saskamodie", Mocky's new album "Saskamodie" on Crammed Discs .
Unlike the US version, the Crammed edition of this exciting double-pack contains 11 audio tracks (10 remixes and a new song), a music video, and a 26-minute film. More info here .

Disko Partizani! sees Shantel successfully synthesizing his experiences as a producer, musician and DJ to create catchy, energetic and festive pop songs, full of hooks and surprises.
After pioneering the concept of Balkan clubbing with his now-legendary Bucovina Club parties and albums, Shantel now lays the groundwork for a new brand of pop music, incorporating vibrant influences from the emerging new frontier which stretches all the way to Mitteleuropa, the south east, Greece, Turkey and beyond.
Essay Recordings (Shantel's label) and Crammed have joined forces for this very special album.
Shantel has been touring extensively with the Disko Partizani project, accompanied by his Bucovina Club Orkestar, a full 8-piece band.

We at Crammed have this strange phobia about being trapped in a box, pinned down, categorized, forbidden to cross boundaries... about belonging only to one place, one culture, one genre... or simply about getting bored by churning out the same stuff over and over again... in other words, we're irrepressibly eclectic, and have been indulging in the delights of genre-b(l)ending... Too bad for the musical churches who won't recognize us as their obedient disciples... we like it like that... and we can't be doing everything wrong, as Crammed appears to be recognized worldwide as one of the most exciting & adventurous independent labels, en toute modestie.... The label has kept reinventing itself, and has been coming up with new blends, freely mixing elements of world music, alternative rock & pop, jazz and electronica ever since its inception in the early '80s, and retrospectively seems to have often been a trailblazer in many ways... although "trailblazing" isn't an occupation per se (not since the wild west), just a byproduct... something that can happen when you simply keep looking for freshness, beauty, surprises, emotions, playfulness, thrills... but let's calm down: we're only a label, and (although we do play our part) it's down to the artists...

Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

WORLD SOUND L'un des OVNIs de cette rentrée musicale et une réussite incontestable... ROCK'N'FOLK Porté par une voix éraillée et fascinante, le résultat ne ressemble a rien de connu, brassant poésie, rock, musiques méditerranéennes traditionnelles et d'influences occitanes dans des chansons mutantes à fort pouvoir évocateur. VIBRATIONS L'album Extatic Malancòni , manifeste poignant, s'ouvre part un riff "stoogien" à la mandole et la tension ne retombe jamais. Sans doute le chant de Karpienia y est-il pour beaucoup, si dense qu'on encaisse physiquement le poids des textes rageurs. MONDOMIX Après quelques courts bruissements de mandole, dès les premières minutes de cet album, la voix de Sam Karpienia est déjà au zénith. Musicalement, les paysages dévoilés sont racés et cohérents ils semblent vierges, ou offrent tout du moins une hybridation originale, entre transe méditerranéenne, urgences rock et lyrisme occitan.
Insaisissable et iconoclaste. Tel est le parcours de Complot (feu Bronswick), formation aux idées larges et à géométrie très variable. Né à l'orée des années 80, ce groupe s'est employé depuis à travestir la new-wave, détrousser le rock, métamorphoser l'electro tout en s'ingéniant parfois à dépasser le cadre des concerts traditionnels pour imaginer des spectacles proches de la performance et du théâtre. De pistes brouillées en dédoublement d'identités, Complot reste l'un des acteurs les plus intrigants de la scène hexagonale, toujours capable de resurgir là où on l'attend le moins. Quatorze ans après leur dernière participation, Éric Trochu, Pierre Fablet, Yves-André Lefeuvre, et François Possémé sont donc de retour aux Trans Musicales, qui plus est dans une salle dont le nom pourrait servir à merveille leurs aspirations.
