| General | I advocate for personal and civic freedom, am captivated by science and technology, and try to live the purpose for which Man was created, which is to care for and tend the Garden of Eden, the living ecosystems we depend on for our very lives, and whose beauty surpasses our capacity to appreciate. | | Music | If it speaks to your heart, I hear it. Van Halen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Iron Maiden, AD/DC, George Lynch, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Metallica, Megadeth, The Deftones, Scorpions, Rush, Ozzy, Ten Years After, Bad Company, Yngwie Malmsteen, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Great White, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Offspring, Green Day, Ted Nugent, Alice in Chains, The Michael Schenker Group, Disturbed, Hieronymus Bosch, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, Yes, and Tool are some of the bands I listen to every day. I also listen to classical guitar like Andres Segovia, Elliot Fisk, Fernando Sor, and some Mozart, Paganini, Chopin, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and more. Anything in between is fair game, as long as it's played well. I play a little, and love to hear my kids play. Everyone should learn to express the music in their soul. | | Movies | I don't spend a lot of time watching people pretending to have interesting lives, but if there's a lot of cool special effects and naked chicks, I'll probably watch it once. Certain movies entertain me repeatedly. Most don't.
Some of the movies I could watch again are Caveman, Them, Spinal Tap, American Pie, Animal House, The Blues Brothers, Up In Smoke, Drunken Master, Overboard, Pulp Fiction, and Mars Attacks. Bogart, Sinatra, Ford, Sellers, De Niro, and Nicholson rarely disappoint, but frankly, I watch more porn. | | Television | Sometimes I inadvertantly notice televisions on when I am at other peoples houses, but as soon as I leave, it doesn't bother me any more. Televisions make good nightstands, especially if you can watch porn on them. | | Books | Some books have good ideas in them, and some books are wild rides in your imagination that enable you to conceive of things and situations you might never otherwise envision. Those books are cool. Some, very few, books tell it like it is, and are worth reading too. A short list of useful reading would include books like "War is a Racket" by Smedley Butler, "Crossing the Rubicon" by Michael Ruppert, anything by Howard Zinn or Noam Chomsky, and poetry like "Ozymandias" by Percy Byshe Shelley, "Invictus" by William Earnest Henley, and Robert Service and cowboy poets. I actually read the internet a lot. Sites like The Nation, Cryptome, and Truthout, Space, the Public Library of Science peer review journals, NASA, and non mainstream media news sites. Oh, and porn. =D | | Heroes | Bob Marshall was pretty wild, and John Muir, James Audobon, and Paul Watson are cool heroes because they stand between the chainsaw of industrial agriculture and the Wild. I like the wild, and cheer anyone on who tries to keep it. Almost all bisexual women are my heroines, but lesbians bum me out. Simon Bolivar, Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Ben Franklin, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, and my ex wife are all wonderful rebels and heroes of mine. The chinese guy who stood in front of the tanks on their way to Tianenmen Square back in the Eighties is my hero. The hooded Iraqi prisoner cuddling their sleeping child behind the razorwire in one of the latest series of Abu Ghraib photos is my hero. My kids are my heroes. I am my hero. Jesus is my hero. Muhammed is my hero. The Bab is my hero. There are too many heroes to list here, and I hear of new ones every day. Every person who ever stood up against impossible odds for the rights of others; every person who ever helped the needy, weak, and persecuted; every person that loved and was kind to someone who hated them; every person who refuses to bow to any earthly power, who will speak their truth even though threatened, is my hero. Let me know if you are my hero, I want to thank you for leading the way, for lightening my load, and helping my friends. |
