Crawdad Hole in Jackson, Mississippi, announces the lineup for the 7th Annual Crawfish Festival to be held on SUNDAY, APRIL 5th, 2009 at 1150 Lakeland Drive next to Smith Wills Stadium. Artists scheduled to appear include The Weeks, Jimbo Mathus & Tri-State Coalition, Mayhem String Band, Duff Dorrough & His Band, Shannon McNally, and Pat Thomas.
The Weeks are a rock band originally from Jackson that is currently based in Cleveland, Mississippi. The band has been causing a national buzz with their debut LP, "Comeback Cadillac," recently released by the Jackson-based Esperanza Plantation record label. They perform at 9:30 p.m.
Jimbo Mathus brings a sound out of Como, Mississippi that melds delta soul, rock & roll, and cottonpatch disco into a homegrown boogie all his own. Mathus cut his teeth with the 1920's platinum-selling throwback group, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and later, his own projects, Knockdown Society, and Knockdown South. After working as guitar player for Buddy Guy's Grammy award-winning Sweet Tea and Blues Singer albums, Mathus moved back to Mississippi to start his own recording studio, Delta Recording Service in Como, Mississippi. Mathus is currently touring in support of his new LP of "inter-planetary honky tonk music" called "Jimmy the Kid" out now on Hill Country Records based in Como.
From Taylor, Mississippi come renegade bluegrassers, Mayhem String Band, who are touring in support of their brand new LP, "Land Pirates," recorded at Jimbo Mathus's Delta Recording Service and produced by Mathus. Also appearing are Holly Springs songstress Shannon McNally, Ruleville country-soul entertainer Duff Dorrough of the Thacker Mountain Radio house band. Dorrough also was co-frontman for the Tangents, a group dubbed “Mississippi’s House Band” by author Willie Morris. Opening the festivities is Leland, Mississippi’s "real-deal" bluesman, Pat Thomas, son of legendary Delta bluesman, Son Thomas. Thomas is touring in support of his debut LP, "My Father's Son," set for a March 2009 release on Broke and Hungry Records out of St. Louis, Missouri.
Taylor, Mississippi's own gonzo writer and Thacker Mountain Radio personality, Jim Dees, returns to emcee the event for a 6th consecutive year.
