    I LIKE DRUMS!!!!!
If i'm ..not.. drumming, i'm probably near death......... I also play squash, been playing for nearly 11 years I think, and its great fun, made a lot of friends. But since I've been living in London, I havn't been able to play squash as much, which is a shame. My highest ranking whilst playing in Junior Squash tournaments was 15th in the Boys U19 Catagory in Wales! But I also spend my time just playing computer games, watching T.V, the usual...

    The Curse of the Were-Rabbit!!
    It was just ------ amazing!!!!!!!!!
CHEESE GROMIT!!! The Simpsons Movie is fantastic also. Some incredibly funny one-liners in it!
And the funniest movies of all time seem to always

Everybody must see "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun",

  • Books

Dun read a lot, except for drumming magazines!!
  • Heroes

My Major influence in drumming is Neil Peart from Rush..... I listened to the drum solo in 'YYZ' on the "Exit...Stage Left" album, and it was so magnifisant that it was then I decided to become a drummer!!
His solos are just works of ..art.., no other drummer in the world can top what he does. Although, since joining the Institute, I have been greatly inspired by the drum teachers. They've shown me that to survive in today's music business, you need to be able to play whatever is required of you, whether it be some latin grooves, some jazz beats, or just a solid pop beat. Now I try to learn the different styles, improve my technique, and push the boundaries of my abilities even further. So I thank the guys at the Institute: Justin Scott, Pete Zeldman, Neil Martin, Chuck Sabo, Fergus Gerrad, Darren Ashford, Gareth Dylan Smith and James 'Oz' Oscroft! You guys rock!! I have also gained a lot of inspiration after seeing Ian Thomas perform at my college. I was greatly impressed by his style and technique, and to top it off, he's Welsh! He must be the best drummer to ever come out of Wales and make a name for himself, and one day I hope to do the same!

About me:

.. ..
Hi, I'm ..Tom.., 21 from Cwmbach, Aberdare in South Wales.
I'm quite tall, thin and shy, but once you get to know me, you're sure to like me!!!!
(If my obsessive drumming doesn't annoy u) =]
I've been playing for just over 5 years now, and it's great!!
Drums are so great to play and sitting behind a drum kit gives you a great sense of skill and power over music.
In August 2005, I won the Roland Drum Institute Partial Scholarship Award, and I started my course in October 2006. Its great living in London, getting to see the sights!! The Institute is such a great place to study. There are talented musicians all around you, and the drum teachers are amazing!! Pete Zeldman kicks ass on the drums, he has outrageous chops!! And I look up to all of the teachers there, they've helped me a lot so far, in terms of my development as a professional musician. I think I'm having the time of my life playing drums in the Institute!!! Now I'm just starting my third year of a Degree course at The Institute, and right now, I just want to keep learning, keep gigging, and see where things go! At the Diploma graduation ceremony, I was awarded a Pass with Merit for the diploma, and I was also named the "Most Improved Drummer", which was a great honour! In other news, I've joined a prog rock band called "SjW", and I absolutely love playing with these guys! Please check out www.sjwband.com and www.myspace.com/sjwrocks We've just started gigging around London and the surrounding areas, so I hope you can come to one of our next shows! I've also started playing with "2 Rude: A tribute to Ska", which is based Newport, and I can't wait to play some gigs back home! Check out www.myspace.com/2rudetheband Plus, I have recently started doing some session work in studios around the South Wales area. So far, I have worked with up-and-coming Welsh singer Pippa Rogers, and her band "The Ricochet". You can hear the songs I recorded with her on her new EP "Sooner Or Now", or at www.myspace.com/pipparogersandthericochet

Who I'd like to meet:

Neil Peart because he is the ..greatest.. drummer in the world!!!!!!!!!
(Shut up rhys)
And Keira Knightley!! Damn she's hot! This is a video of me performing with Pete Lockett & The ICMP Drummers at the REMO Drummers Night in June 2008. I'm in the back row, far left! This is a video of me playing on my friend Sam's drum kit!
This is my tribute to one of my favourite scenes from one of my favourite films: "Airplane!"
