About me: YOUR LIBRARY MAY CLOSE!
On August 5th, the Chippewa River District Library will ask voters to re-approve the 1.75 mills for ten years originally approved ten years ago. This millage is strictly for operation only. If the operational millage is not approved, the Veterans Memorial Library in Mt. Pleasant and the Faith Johnston Memorial Library in Rosebush WILL CLOSE!
The Chippewa River District Library System's current operating millage expires at the end of 2008.
The expiring millage provides 70% of the Chippewa River District Library System's operating budget. Without this millage, the Chippewa River District Library will lose up to another 17% of additional funding, leaving only 13% of its current budget for operations.
Due to the Headlee amendment, the Chippewa River District Library has yet to levy the full amount of 1.75 mills approved by voters in 1998. Headlee rollback set the library's millage amount at 1.6894 mills.
By approving up to 1.75 mills, that rate can then be rolled back allowing the Chippewa River District Library to continue to operate at its current millage level.
If the operational millage is not approved, the Veterans Memorial Library in Mt. Pleasant and the Faith Johnston Memorial Library in Rosebush WILL CLOSE!
