About me:

AT FIRST LOOK AT FIRST LEDE, REAL LEAD

Attention subscribers: the latest issue of CNF--First Lede, Real Lead--will be arriving shortly.

Essays in this issue cover a vast array of topics: explaining war to a child; the phases of the moon; ghosts of an insane asylum; prospecting for gold in New Hampshire; reclaiming the land; and more.

What makes this issue special is the insider's guide to the revision and editorial processes: specifically, how to choose a story's best beginning (hint: sometimes it's on page 3).

We gave three of these essays new beginnings and our website will feature a special interactive component that will allow readers to view the stories in their submitted AND published forms. What's more, readers will have the opportunity to join the discussion online and weigh in on the debate: How do you choose a story's best beginning? The best part: this issue will provide invaluable insight that will help strengthen and focus your own writing.

Not a subscriber? It's not too late. Sign up now to guarantee First Lede, Real Lead is your first issue.

It blows my mind that some people put pickles on their grilled cheese sandwiches. Blows my mind! Ketchup on scrambled eggs I can understand. Mayonnaise on French Fries, eh ok, I'm not going to bash the British. I've even seen people eat whole live baby octopi, and though it made me nauseas and strangely a little frightened, it made sense. And well, I've met a couple of dog eaters that were nice enough people that, in their minds, were just eating meat. And that made enough sense. But pickles on a grilled cheese? It's just unexplainable, inexcusable. What is wrong with these people? There must be some non-lethal neural infarct or they aren't able to taste and don't know it (like people who are color blind and have no idea because they've never been able to see colors and have no frame of reference for colors and have to take a special test to learn that they can't see colors). I suppose it could also be psychological. Some traumatic childhood occurrence. Who knows? I am not a doctor or in any way affiliated with the medical community.

Keep up the good work CNF.

I don't know anything about your organization. I have no idea what "creative nonfiction" could possibly mean. I mean, is it like divided multiplication? I'm not sure why you want to be my friend or how to be friends with a company. But since you have received a better than sparkling review by a person whom every literate member of our global society is forced to respect just on the basic understanding of what "intelligent" and "respectable" mean, and have had the foresight and good reason to choose this one person's comment as the banner for your website, I feel i have no choice but to add you to my friend list and to subscribe to and purchase whatever flighty adjective filled wonder that you feel fit to publish or pander. Creative Nonfiction Reader, my personal hero, has just done too much to further our understanding of the Greater understanding to possibly ignore his/her recommendation. I feel that, because of Creative Nonfiction Reader's assurance of the quality of your publication I can pre-thank you for all of the insight and genius I am sure to be exposed to via your site. Thank you, thank you in advance. And by the way, if you see Creative Nonfiction Reader anytime soon please let him/her know that Voracious Pizza Eater, Inappropriately Sarcastic Left Wing Pizza Deliver Guy, and Guy Who Is Willing To Talk To Any Chick At The Bar and I are planning on meeting at Fuel and Fuddle on Thursday.
