AU Frankfurt
Friday 5th june....So look out for the double green mohican that is xxxxx at the airport hes there but sadly no cardboard cress name board, took us to the AU, good man.insect party at the AU squat in frankfurt, loads of nice food and free beer, well our motto as always been:never refuse free food or booze:we meet Vxxx whos managed to get us off our fat communal arses and got us over to play the celebration of the oldest squat in germany,we have a good feeling about this , the party is in the grounds of the squat and the atmosphere is fuckin great lots of people in fancy dress, fuckin hari phishnas beating their beer bottles and chantng, real good night the beer flowed and some was spilled...Dave and Pete performed a special gig in the bands room, underpants only soon to appear on youtube/Chris,s dvd backprojections to scare the kids and destroy the internet from within...
Saturday....early...not good...rain and lots of it, so we went for a walk around town, good river, thought about canoeing but didnt have a canoe ,this part of frankfurt was quite strange very nice and suburbian like, but quiet, until we heard the pa fire up in the distance....This gig was outdoors a first for Cress outside in the manchester type weather...first band shoemakers with a 77 style punk rock, tried to talk with them but couldnt get past their punk rock glasses,next band i think dave said they were called soundgarden, sort of pubrockish but very good at what they did, Cut my skin were a bit more like what we expected, upbeat, willy the drummer was a good chap, let me use the toilet before he went in to abuse it...So it was the turn of CRESS, all the backline was borrowed the bass was also lent, so we werent expecting much, but were we in for a shock, the sound guy was a genius, up on that stage it was fuckin loud and clear, so we started off with the samples leading into MENTALITY/TVSCREEN, the kids went balistic, oh you drunk punks we love you, but not your bottles of beer on the floor and the cans of beer that appear as if by magic from midair,PRISONS, nev snapped a string but like the professional musicians that we are(Sarcasm)straight on into SIRENS/VIOLATE and MANSLAUGHTER...Chris set the dvd player up earlier so we were accompanied by his moving picture montages images of mans progress and pure destruction of the earth,PROGRESS saw an invasion of drunk punks who wanted to say their piece, which is great but dont stand on the guitar pedals and pull the leads out next time,EARTH, another stage invasion, and i got hit with a sausage thrown very accurately to the shoulder pad.ILLUSIONS which is one of our favourite live songs with an extra long hippy drug bit at the end, CONSUME working well with chris s tv footage , a multitude of strobelike adverts, at last the end is nigh MONUMENTS a good old sing a long with cresseoki, fuck we were pretty drained and were in desperate need of refreshment but a strange thing occured..Vxxx said we had fifteen minutes left so wed better do something with them, weve never really done extra songs but it was a real good night 900 people all standing on the grass outside under the night sky with no fuckin rain, probably waiting to throw more shite at us..ok then..DOLE,im always amazed when some young punk starts to sing the words but there was this one kid, and he knew them better than me, i was impressed as we dont do dole very often,BEASTS/ONE, and end with ANIMAL AND TWO VEG a great singalongacress tune which always makes me think of wat tyler...the end of the gig , but not the night. Blaggers ITA played after us, not what i expected they were a lot better a bit skanky and abit oi, but good there drummer and trumpet player wer really good blokes we all had a good chat with them west country types..well overall we as CRESS had a fuckin great time at the AU , possbly one of if not the best gig weve ever done, Vxxx and Mxxx will always be on our people to know list,along with The only Martin and his mates from Hamburg who got the beers in on sunday morning, but The star of the show was the AU Squat ...showing us all what we can have and can do...thank you AU...pete cress
