Originally started in the glorious summer of 2002 with Patrick Walton (Lancs), Elliot Smith (Lancs), Matt "Barthur" Barrow (Derbys), Nathan "Bear" Quain (Yorks), Luke "Yoof" Parkinson (Notts), and Andrew "Marsh" Marshall (Lancs), making our Yorkshire county debut in the York University battle of the bands competition as an alternative to insipid student indie toss, surprising everyone by reaching the competition final in the white raiments of our national game.
As our reputation spread, we gained the mantle of "people's grind band" due to the continued support of the people of York. Despite an extended hiatus brought about by the loss of a key player to his home county of Lancashire, LBW took an unprecedented leap by drawing in a maverick Cornishman, "Buckley" to open the batting for the team in 2004. Since then, LBW have increased their popularity through the assisstance of our resident tea ladies, Julie Cunningham and Dominica Halloran, who have been providing light refreshments of home-baked goods and Yorkshire tea during match intervals, allowing the gentlemen present to take stock of the state of play, aided by the caning of bifters and quaffing of ale.
Following the departure of Buckley, the team have relocated to a new training ground in the shadow of the Yorkshire County Cricket ground in Headingley, a venue with promising facilities. The new season will mark the unveiling of an improved squad, demonstrating exciting additions to the sport which have not been witnessed in our beautiful game since the infamous Bodyline contoversy unleashed upon our antipodean relatives in the early twentieth century.
New signings to be announced soon.
