Criminal Suicide Ltd. is a unique rock band comprised of just two headstrong & talented artists. They possess more attitude & balls than most of the other current rock bands put together, most of which fall into the derivative category or the ‘try-too-hard’ brigade who tend to look like they raided the dregs of Freddy Krueger’s garage sale & sound even more shit than that . . .
DEAN E. JAMES hails from Oxford & is the main musical motor behind the unit, responsible for electrifying guitar work, a large amount of the lead vocals & producing the band’s impressive catalogue of recordings. C.A. JONES is from Wigan (Greater Manchester) & is primarily a writer of stunning & unusual lyrics & also mixes drum loops, samples & sequences using her formidable RS7000 sampler to great effect due to her innate & instinctive sense of rhythm.
Both members have their stripes when it comes to the rock & roll way of life. C.A. JONES was not only present & fully switched-on at the 70s festivals – including Glastonbury & Reading, as well as lesser-known but excellent shindigs such as Lincoln & Bickershaw – but even lived on the road! She sat at the feet of – amongst others – Hawkwind, Rory Gallagher, The Faces, Family, Country Joe & the Fish, Status Quo & The Kinks, & these groups are the key influences she brings to Criminal Suicide Ltd. She hung out with Stanley Baker for four weeks in 1972 but declined his offer to go into movies, which only goes to show that C.A. Jones brings the ethos & attitude of the boom period before rock was just another industry as facile & brainless as the Tin Pan Alley it thought it had replaced. Her prolific muse is not confined to lyrics: she already has several poems & pieces on the website ABCtales.com. DEAN E. JAMES showed an unusual & empathic response to music from a very early age & at three years old loved not only ABBA but also the far more aggressive sounds of the Sex Pistols. Inevitably he wound up playing electric guitar by the end of 1989. Within ten months, he had assembled a band that supported The Jennifers (later Supergrass). Notoriously, he threw his electric guitar at the two ‘engineers’ at the desk due to an “unsatisfactory” mix & stormed off in front of two hundred people! When he managed to drag himself away from his studio he saw Ozric Tentacles live & also went to the first Tribal Gathering in 1995, where he saw Orbital, the Prodigy & Carl Cox. Indeed, it’s ironic that each member of Criminal Suicide Ltd. should ultimately be most talented in the field that one would expect the OTHER to be most adept. But that’s why they’re so fucking good . . .
