While readily acknowledging our debt to such bands as the Misfits, Samhain, and the Accused, we in Crimson Spectre also align ourselves with a dissident aesthetic most visible, in this country, in the horror films of the past thirty years, where - to quote Lenin - the "Aesopian language" of zombies, cannibalism, chainsaw massacres, monster babies, demonic possession, and hockey-masked serial killers has provided allegorical embodiment for social critiques and political analyses otherwise considered too volatile for the pop-culture arena.
We're the voice in the forest that you hear in The Evil Dead . Our request hasn't changed: JOIN US!
Gravediggers of International Capitalism Horror is everywhere around us: horrors of WAR, horrors of OCCUPATION, horrors of POVERTY, horrors of SOCIAL INJUSTICE.
A ghoul-punk aesthetic is one strategy among many a band might employ to draw attention to this collective political nightmare and to articulate it in a highly-stylized and accessible form...
...It might also be the most fun. photo:cristinky fuentes
any chance you got any merch left? specifically t-shirts of the "ghoul punks" design? If not, it cool if I stencil one (for personal use, won't make any money off of it)
Undead mothafuckas! I was listening to yeh CD last night (sort of a weekly ritual), and I shed a single black tear because I knew that I would never see you live. To add to the pain, I missed the Oi Polloi concert in Glasgow a week ago. The horror! Anyway, do you know if you have one of the old-style CD shirts ("ghoul punx style) kicking around? I'd kill to get my hands on one.
On March 19, 2003 the United States military attacked the nation of Iraq. Four years later that illegal war has taken 655,000 Iraqi and 3,000 American lives, has maimed and traumatized hundreds of thousands more, has drained billions of dollars from social programs, and has been used to justify repression at home.
On November 7, 2006 American voters sent a clear message to Washington that they want that war to end.
On January 10, 2007 President Bush announced that he is sending 21,500 more troops to Iraq.
On January 11, 2007 a group of protestors put their bodies on the line in downtown Greensboro to declare that this country is in a state of emergency.
On March 13, 2007 we get our day in court.
Please come out to support the defendants in the courtroom and take part in a speak-out about the illegitimacy of this war, and of a government that has lost the consent of the governed.
WHAT: Trial of the January troop surge protestors.
WHERE: Guilford County Courthouse, Courtroom 2G and outside the courthouse
WHEN: Tuesday, March 13, 8:30 a.m. and throughout the day
Okay, so here's an idea. You get back together and play some more shows with us. It's a win-win. A week is surely long enough to make the break-up official, you could totally do a reunion tour now. Seriously, I had a blast with you guys last weekend, and hate to see one of the few bands I like to play with stop rockin'.
