About CRiSAP

CRiSAP is a research unit based at the London College of Communication, part of the University of the Arts London. It was founded in late 2005 and has produced a variety of events since then including:

* an evening of Alvin Lucier’s work at the Tate Modern

* an international conference on Sound and Anthropology at St Andrew’s University in Scotland

* a symposium on digital improvisation facilitated by David Toop

* edited an issue of Organised Sound

* commissioned an innovative software application for the manipulation of recorded vocal material

* commissioned an online exhibition curated by Salomé Voegelin (available to view here.)

*co-curated the "Performance of Sound" symposium at Tate Britain

*edited and produced "Autumn Leaves: Sound and Environment in Artistic Practice" published by Vibro/Double Entendre (available to buy here.). You can create your own CD from the soundtrack that goes with the book at German record label Gruenekorder

CRiSAP’s current activities are focused in three areas: engaging broadly with relationships between sound and environment; investigating the potential of archival materials to animate contemporary sound art debate; and developing new creative software. During the life of the unit, other emphases will emerge.
