Chris is an artist with a heart. His compassion and talents open the doorway for him to touch many people, and make an impact upon the world around him.
The Song of Songs teaches us that love is a song. We know that God is love, and music is the language of love; therefore music is the language of God. Chris is very fluent with the language of Heaven and engages us all in conversation by the lyrics he sings, and music he plays. He has embraced the most reiterated commandment in the Bible, to sing praise to God, like none Ive ever personally known. I was encouraged by the interest that Chris took in the life and music ministry of Rich Mullins, who lived a life truly seeking to follow Christ despite his success in popular culture. I do not anticipate that Chris will seek to be the next Rich Mullins, or the next anybody, other than himself, but there is much to learn from those who have gone before us, and Chris has exercised the humility to gain such wisdom.
His passion for music is matched by his compassion for others. Matthew 28:18-20 is referred to as the Great Commission, but I think that the Great Commission is powerless without the Great Compassion found in Matthew 25:40. (I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.) Chris inherently understands this whether its by his intentional effort to serve through organized Church missions, or his everyday words and actions of affirmation to people who need to know that they matter, and are loved.
Ive witnessed Chris in different situations, and his character and actions are consistent with all of those he encounters. In the church today, there are those who Brennan Manning calls pretenders in the spirit, but Chris is not a pretender. Hes the real deal.
