Music
Ecclectic variety of off-the-wall musical tastes:
(Revisit this page off and on and listen to my mix of ten songs shown above. I change them around frequently.)
Styles I like: Art rock, jazz, latin, world music, classic soul and r&b, gothic rock, modern folk, experimental, ambient, Classical, Barroque, Early Music, '70s and '80s, artists who consciously create their own musical atmosphere
Generally not big on hvi mutl, r%p, brn-agin Kristx*n pop, or stuff that I find "too formulaic" - but there may be exceptions to this rule because I keep an open ear for creative twists or special pizzazz in the artist's style.
Groups and artists: Peter Gabriel, Suzanne Vega, XTC, Todd Rundgren, Flaming Lips, Chaka Khan, King Crimson, Yes, Fleetwood Mac, The Fifth Dimension, The Who, Duncan Sheik, Supreme Beings of Leisure, Yello, Laurie Anderson, Kate Bush, The Church, Clan of Xymox, El último de la fila, Stan Getz, Bill Withers...

Nevada Opera video
Here's a link to the video page of the Nevada Opera web site. Currently that page has a link to the production "Orpheus of the Underworld" performed in April 2007 at the Pioneer Auditorium in Reno, Nevada. I had fun in this production. Each of us in the chorus was dressed as a distinct Greek god. www.nevadaopera.org/videos

I composed this! (Mi komponis la jenon ekde 7:25 gxis 6:56)
Here is part 10 of an Esperanto language learning video series called "Pasporto al la Tuta Mondo" (Passport to the Whole World) which features music that I composed with the same name - appearing from 12 seconds into the video and playing intermittently for 6 minutes - where it tops off with the full sung (and choreographed) version of the song. I got help with the Esperanto lyrics from a friend who lives in Sacramento, California (Tony Misty Johnstone). The video discusses (in Esperanto) how the video series can be used as a teaching tool.
The song that occurs afterwards is called "Kanto de la Kelnero" (Song of the Waiter) is about the life of a waiter and his unmercifully demanding customers (plus puns that you only get when you understand the language). Anyway, here it is.

My non-day-job is doing music and hamming it up in front of an audience - in varying capacities.
Here are upcoming shows I will be performing in - (so far, only in the Reno, Nevada area)
2009 November 6 - 21 - Dracula the Musical? by Rick Abbott - Brewery Arts Center - Black Box Theater - Carson City, Nevada. I'm Count Dracula !! Visit http://breweryarts.org/BACPAC_dracula.html.
Back to About Me: A mild-mannered all-around misfit who wants to be your friendly neighbor.
I'm a walking jukebox. Music goes through my head most of the time. Some song that I like.. with all the instrumentation. I sing and play piano and keyboards. Though classically trained, I tend towards teaching myself music by ear, usually some creative form of jazzy or prog rock that I have on the "b" side of my albums. My singing career stems from singing in a community boys' choir to high school and college and sundry church choirs to madrigal groups to a vocal jazz group to choruses on stage - i.e. the Nevada Opera Chorus. Among my musical goals is to do more composing as well as arranging.
Other things about me
Myers-Briggs type - tested at INTP (sometimes INTJ)
Quite a lot of interests - my "fingers in a lot of pies"
Reality is far more interesting than stereotypes.
Love languages and connecting with the world.
Enjoy absorbing interesting bits of information as opposed to big novels.
Design for clarity, utility, and beauty.
Understanding and perspective - not blind loyalty.
Like to be goofy, playful, creative.
Love pets and kids, though I don't have any.
A monk's karma? "Quirkyalone" but open to "Quirkytogether" possibilities. (http://quirkyalone.net)
Smoking - never done it - don't plan to.
Alcohol - moderate: I don't go out just to drink.
Drugs - not for me. Opposed to the so-called "War on Drugs" though.
Libertarian-ish leanings - prefer ground-up, voluntary solutions over top-down authority
I favor voluntary redistribution of wealth - true free enterprise.
I'm all for voluntary world unity - keeping the best of the world's diversity intact.
Beliefs are not as important as how they inspire living.
The "God" I believe in is not really a "god" but the infinite well-spring of all that is.
My experience is that sexual feeling does not just respond to male or female.
We're all one human race with varying shades of brown skin.
I love observing and meeting people of all kinds of backgrounds, and hearing their stories.

Esperanto - an invented "bridge" language for international use
Esperanto is a constructed language created in the late 1800's by a Russian Jew, Ludvig Zamenhov living in Poland in a town with deep cultural and linguistic divisions. Being a high minded idealist (kind of like me), he invented a language with mostly Latin and Germanic root words and with a simple, streamlined grammar. Visit http://www.esperanto-usa.org and http://www.lernu.net for more info.
For those who are curious to know more on the "what" and "why" about the invented international language of Esperanto, here's a short promotional video about the purpose, life, history, and usefulness of the language as a "learner-friendly" bridge language for the world. I wasn't involved in the making of this video, but I think it's well made. I offer my help in learning the language, so feel free to contact me.

Before you say, "There ought to be a law..."
Here below is a video that eloquently outlines the basic "laws" of liberty - in terms of rights and non-rights. It's a wonderful line of logic. In a nutshell, whatever freedoms you expect for yourself, you must respect the same freedoms for others. Also, whatever rights and privileges you instinctively expect for yourself over what you own, you must also honor for everyone else over what they own. Check this out. You may find it to be an eye-opener.
