A link to some crochet facts. The history of crochet has been very questionable throughout the centuries. These arts are very old (ancient). There is no way to know what individual invented them. They developed as an art over time one technic after another. Some accounts take this back to ancient Arabia and China, but there's no real way of knowing just where it originated. These arts became popular in Europe during the 18th century, and particularly during the middle 19th century, in the Victorian era. Crochet became a folk art practiced by women and children to earn extra money during hard economic times. This thrived in Ireland during the terrible years of the potato famine. Cheap imitations of crochet became available, but collectors of fine lace disdained purchasing these imitations, and bought the hand made product from poor Irish women. Queen Victoria, herself, was a collector of hand-made crochet....

The birth of American industrialization is often credited to Samuel Slater,
an immigrant from England who in 1790 constructed the first successful
American cotton-spinning mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. As a protégé
of Jebediah Strutt (partner of Richard Arkwright, the inventor of the
water-powered spinning machine), Slater had been exposed to all phases
of the factory system prior to his arrival in the United States. However,
it was not until 1813 that the factory system was applied to the entire
textile industry. Read more...
"Vivacious Life"
Tiger Eye is a stone for increasing your body's physical energy & stamina. For your mind, it brings mental clarity, willpower, strength and decisiveness. It is said to stimulate the third chakra, the solar plexus chakra which is the chakra for power & vitality (color yellow/element of fire). This bold beauty shimmers in the light, with golds and browns shifting like a tiger in the forest.
"Stone of Kindness"
Blue Lace Agate is a stone of calm and peace and is a good stone for meditation. It brings a feeling of personal space and helps connect us with the more subtle energies of the spiritual realm. It is a gentle stone and may help those who are gentle by nature not to be changed by other influences. Reminds us that all is of spiritual origin. A stone of wisdom, kindness and peace.
"The Ancient Detoxifier"
Amethyst is a stone of spirituality, primarily for controlling emotions and for clarity of thought. Promotes psychic abilities, imagery, mind quieting. Reduces anger, impatience, and nightmares. Brings about healthy love through detoxification and healing. Especially aids in sobriety: alcohol, food, sex, and other addictions. A famous ancient detoxifier.
"Technical and Physical Correctness"
Malachite is a stone of transformation. It assists in changing situations and helping in the ability to learn lessons leading to spiritual evolution. It is an excellent stone for clarifying the emotions and for allowing for both the recognition and the release of negative energy. Malachite is an equalizing and balancing agent. It can help clear the path leading to a desired goal. Malachite also helps one recognize the benefits of taking responsibility for actions, enabling one to let go of blame.
"Life Force Energy"
Red Jasper corresponds with the first chakra; the base of the spine (earth/physical needs). Increases life-force energies, or prana. Provides a constant flow of energy that enables wholeness. Red Jasper offers grounding and strength, and helps create a union with the Earth. Associated with Aries.
A VIRTUOUS WOMAN
For her value is far above rubies. She is what God calls a woman who has an effective force or power to produce a definite result. She has an exceptional ability to produce unconditional love. She is only the brightest star. She is an absolute10. Better yet, she is chastity. She is full of strength and wisdom. She has the force of an army. These are not the words that are used to describe a prudish weak girl. This is a woman who is resourceful, and yet as we delude her, she is incredibly balanced. Excellence speaks to her self-perception. That is a standard that she will not deviate from. She doesn’t always get what she deserves, but none the less, she always knows what she deserves. She is a precious jewel. She is the jasper stone of the day and the rich onyx of the night. So do not be discouraged if you have failed base on pass performance. This is a title given to someone that persisted and rose above her calamities and always paid a debt she didn’t owe. And yet still graceful and strong, she carries on. She is a creature of pure beauty. Demanding respect has made her rich in class. She is an exquisite wonder that this generation seldom beholds. What else can I say? She is simply love. She is the soul of her house and the life support of her children. It’s as if she wears strength and honor for clothing. She opens her mouth with wisdom and on her tongue is the law of kindness because teaching is her greatest asset. She is a lady not because of the abundance of wealth she possesses, but the abundance of class that she demonstrates. She is a moment of treasure to be admired. She is a missing ingredient that will complete anyone’s vision. She is a rich composite of many precious potentials. To have her love is like winning the lottery. She is a treasure that you get to keep for the rest of your life. I will always love you and miss you.
Your daughter Arleen.

Always remember, we love you and thank you for your dedication and commitment. You are always in our prayers.

My name is Arleen. Mother and Grandmother
living in Brooklyn, NY.
I have been crocheting for many years. I crochet alot in the winter for my own hats, gloves, panchos and scarves. I love learning how to crochet all kinds of different things. I always have yarn for the brainstorming moments. I have really enjoyed looking through my friends pages and looking at all of the many breath-taking work. There is a lot of love in this hobby of mine. There are always new things that I try out in the craft world, but I always come back to crocheting. I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. I believe I will be crocheting till my hands fall off or till I die. Which ever comes first.

Many of you, my dear friends, have asked me how JJ is doing. I'm caring for him like a sick child nearly 24 hours a day. I don't get much sleep (I'm not complaining) these days so I often forget to get back to you as I have limited computer time as well. It's not that I don't read your messages or think about what wonderful friends God has blessed me with. I truly enjoy hearing from you and love getting messages, comments and emails. I do want you to know that if I don't reply right away I will as soon as I get a chance. I love each of you dearly and thank you so much for everything. We need many, many prayers for JJ. Prayers were answered for Winston (and continue to be) and without you I don't know if he'd be here with us today. I have put up a web page on Winston's site for JJ. This will make it easier if you would like to check in on JJ. I will continue to update this page. I invite you to visit it as well as our regular updates page. Here is the link:
