Influences
songwriters/musicians & artists, solid gold oldies, camping, fishing, exploring, rivers, railroads, gravel roads, thunderstorms, architecture, agriculture, bluegrass festivals, open tunings, apple cider, "cool hand" Luke, Tom Joad, cold women, warm whiskey, "Blind" Willie McTell, the Highway Patrol, my family, old stompin grounds, Pabst, road trips far/near, mountains, trains, mix tapes, audiobooks, NPR, etc.
After first picking up a 6-string at the ripe age of 14, Shenandoah, IA, native Matt Cox has gone on to produce an illustrious catalog of timeless songs, hymns full of lonely highways, distillery lunch breaks, longing and realization. After handling sticks for Phoenix, AZ, based Junk Ditch Road for a short stint in 2002 then later establishing his self as a vibrant part of the Omaha singer/songwriter scene, Cox released the celebrated Folker’s Travels in 2007. Since his formative time in AZ, Cox has begun to define his singular style and toured a good part of the United States, performing in venues ranging from an abandoned warehouse in Oakland, CA to the Bluebird Café in Nashville, TN while local stages like
the Waiting Room, Barley St. Tavern, and Slowdown, continue to allow Cox to bring his foot-stomping, white-boy blues & old-time country to a constantly ever-growing fan-base.
Cox has recently reached new listeners in towns like Denver, where he played an integral part of A Moveable Feast, a songwriters co-op, and Austin, TX where he has been invited two years in a row to perform at their prodigious SXSW festival. Look for the new album "My Last Dollar" to be self-released March 2009. If you’ve ever felt betrayed by the gloss on the radio or the shine on music videos, Cox offers a bit of good ‘ole honest-to-goodness, hollering music for the new generation.

Hey dude, long time no see/speak! Hope your travels are going well. You're a punk for that. You were supposed to get married and be bored with the rest of us. lol Anyway... got some new pics of the baby Dozier up if you get bored. The older two are gonna be 9 and 10 this year! I still remember when they wanted to go knock on your door and bring you cookies on a Blue's Clues plate just so they could hang out with you guys, lol... anyway, saw you up on SlamOmaha for upcoming shows and figured I'd drop you a line. Later!
The new tunes sound great; thanks for dropping that disc off the other night. I'd be happy to sit down with you sometime over the weekend and hash out the one-sheet.
