Bio
Singer-songwriters Bruce Lawson and Jen Carter-Kelly first combined their talents in 2001. They evolved into CROSSING NORTH, a duo that respects the past while creating their own unmistakable spare, sweet sound. They built a reputation for performing traditional, uncontrived acoustic music at coffeehouses, festivals and concerts. They've now performed in NYC, NJ, NH, ME, PA, MA, DE, VT, and Canada. Recent highlights include: The Living Room NYC, North Branch Bluegrass Festival, Otis Mountain Music Festival, First Night Burlington (VT) Festival, Caffe Lena (open for The Gibson Brothers), Acoustic Brew Concert Series at Penn State (open for The Biscuit Burners), Side Door Coffeehouse in Montreal, Musikfest (Bethlehem, PA). Their first CD, "Late Night Songs" was released in 2004 and features original tunes with guest performances by Eric Gibson (The Gibson Brothers, courtesy Sugar Hill records), Junior Barber (nominated Dobro Artist of the Year eight times by IBMA) and Adirondack folk music legend Roy Hurd. In 2006 Crossing North released their second CD "Fragile". The duo again featured their songwriting skills and included Doug Knight (banjo) and Skip Smithson (mandolin) on the recording. Both recordings received local radio airplay and critical acclaim. Their songs are played regularly on sites including pandora, wholewheatradio, moozikoo, folkalley and others. Crossing North released their 3rd CD "No Time to Rest" in 2009. This mature recording features their award-winning songwriting, along with their well-defined acoustic sound and harmony singing. Fan favorites include "Shades of Green" and their evocative cover of the classic "I Fall to Pieces". David Vinopal, author of Gibson's Fabulous Flat-top Guitars, said simply, "Their harmonies sound effortless, inevitable." You can buy or listen to cd's at cdbaby.com. Email crossingnorth@gmail.com. -
