Alborz Mohtashami, stage name Crossword, is a songwriter/emcee hailing from North York, Toronto. Having been drawn to music from a very early age, Alborz was writing songs before he was able to write, with the assistance of family members who would jot down each lyric and note he belted out.

Throughout the years, Alborz has experimented with different styles of music in his songwriting and performing, from alternative rock to metal to punk to hip hop. Never satisfied with the status quo, he chose to write about politics, social inequities, and everyday struggles and vowed to infuse passion and meaning into each one of his lyrics from an early age.

Crossword combines elements from all over this musical background in his work today, which makes for an unorthodox variation of hip hop music. Along with his aural taste, he has broadened his subject matter while maintaining the mentality of strong lyricism.

Crossword believes that anyone wielding a microphone is in a position of immense power and influence, and thus has a responsibility to speak constructively and productively, honouring the privilege of speaking for a crowd. Knowing this, whether he's writing about relationships, politics, or even petty trash talk, Crossword hopes to make music that provokes thought and that people can relate to.
