If you take the Dead Kennedys and smash it with the Fall and have it fronted by a ranting chick - well, THAT'S the Crumsy Pirates. Yeah, sure, like most old school punks we can cover the Ramones or the Buzzcocks or even Motorhead; but we also cover the Stranglers and we don't even have a keyboardist.
Our hippie friends think we're covert right-wing sympathizers and our conservative friends think we're blasphemous and ill-mannered.
We bash everyone equally, and you can check out the madness LIVE by searching out the Crumsy Pirates on YouTube, specifically the Ice House footage courtesy of dukowski1965. Yeah, do some some research yourselves, punks. Do you expect everything to be handed to you in clicky-link form?
CRUMSY PIRATES at RAW, ISP June 28, 2007. Video shot by artemis.
CRUMSY PIRATES' "COWBOY GEORGE" AS Seen ON CHANNEL ZERO's Homemade episode:
The Crumsy Pirates started in January 2003 when Tracy (vocalist) decided she wanted to start writing and performing again, so she convinced Richard (guitarist) that a new punk band was the way to go. The pair found Ayman (bassist), a recent job-transfer from Chicago, via a Creative Loafing ad. After a month of writing original songs, few of which hit the three-minute mark, the trio hooked up with skate punk Sean (drummer) to complete the crew.
In the past three years, the Crumsy Pirates have managed to shanghai the stages locally at 10 High, Mulligans, GSU, 9 Lives Saloon, Lenny's, Star Bar, the Midnighter's, Swayze's and regionally at Birmingham's Cave 9. They've appeared on local television and college radio and private parties and anywhere else they could muster. They've got a current catalog of nearly a hundred songs and they've self-produced 2 albums and possess many live show recordings. There even exists a video or two of the Pirates in action live in concert.
Alas, in December of 2006, Pirate Ayman reluctantly bid the crew of the good ship Crumsiana adieu - and the Queen rallyed her survivors to seek new bass-playing blood and booty.
After a very interesting hunt and many fine offers to man the bass-station, the Pirates found their new crew member in January 2007 - the former Gaslight guitarist/violinist/vocalist extraordinare: Jennifer Thompson. The Lady Jenn impressed us all when she whipped through a cover of "Janie Jones" with us and then proceeded to learn several Crumsy originals...all during the first hour and a half of her audition!
We look forward to writing new material and continuing to call out the idiots with new and even more Headlines-Inspired Insanity. There is never a shortage of idiocy to inspire the rantings of the Pirate Queen.
Disclaimer: These musicians are quite adept at a wide range of musical styles including but not limited to surf, goth, rockabilly, shoe-gazing, and reggae. Why would a Pirate lie about THAT? Rest assured: the Crumsy Pirates WILL consider booking weddings, bar mitzvahs, funerals, or your next corporate retreat.
As you may or may not be aware SoundARC hold a charity gig every year at Club 85 in Hitchin in aid of the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, and this year we are going to try something a little different from previous years.
This year we are going to take over the club and host 37 acts in one weekend putting full bands upstairs and acoustic acts downstairs in an event that we are calling ARCfest!
It all starts on Friday 4th December at 7pm and then continues on through Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th from 12pm-11pm
As well as raising money for the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, ARCfest will showcase all the different genres of bands that we at SoundARC have come across over the last 4 and a half years. Over this weekend a lot of the acts that you will see don’t get a chance to play a great local venue like Club 85, So as well as hearing new music you will see all manors of genres and styles from acoustic - Metal - Indie - Rock - Punk - Electro - Ska - Funk - Hip Hop/Rap - Alternative - Rhythm & Blues - Reggae - Grunge and loads more that I cant remember!
