Sounds Like
Honky-tonk like a shot of cheap whiskey at a gourmet restaurant
Cryin' Out Loud is an eastern Kansas area band that has been playing its own blend of swingin' twanged-out garagabilly honkytonkification for a handful of years now around the area in bars and clubs, at weddings and parties, on farms and in pole barns, and in city parks and cafes. The members are all veterans of and represent a diverse and rich lineage in the Lawrence, regional, and in some cases national music scene reaching back through the early 1980's.
These guys' eclectic roots in punk, classical, ballad, jazz, and yester-year'sear-splitting garage and alt rock appear today as nuances in a unique blend of traditional and modern, driving and melodic, recognizable and obscure. Or more simply, this music ranges from ass-whoopin' stampede stomp to tear-in-your-eye raunch to nice n' pretty. The Cryin' Out Loud sound is created by players whose musical journeys have collectively traversed jazz and classical, college alt-rock and punk, folk and country, hillbilly and rockabilly, progressive rock and blues, Deadhead and psychedelic, subway-singing and coffee-house acoustic story-telling, with a bit of reggae and ska and even experimental electronica thrown in along the way. Not to worry though; you won't hear any experimental electronica at a Cryin' Out Loud show.
