In the summer of 2004 Jared Downs called up his friend Ewan Leask and conspired to create a black metal band. Long time friend of Jared, Nick Sandberg happened to be sitting on a couch nearby when the topic of needing a drummer came up and cut in with "I'll do it" and the rest is history. Shortly after the position of bass was filled by James Steen and the position of 2nd guitar was filled by Caleb Kalinowski. Caleb soon left the band to pursue other projects however and James stayed for some time and appeared on the band's first demo, "The Graveless One" in 2006 but then also left to pursue other projects. Much time has passed since then and the band quickly started to change its sound from the beginning. What was supposed to be black metal eventually morphed itself in to a unique mix of heavy metal and grunge rock that features both death metal growls and clean vocals. The band has just recorded its 2nd demo to start off 2008 and finally has a full line up again. The band is constantly evolving and adding elements to its sound. Who knows what lies ahead.

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:
