  • Bio

For those who"ve ever tried to build a Crystal Radio out of an assortment of wires & various nerdy electronic odds & ends you"ll know it"s a relatively easy process....if you have all the right bits and the patience to be able to tune it into a station that plays something that you actually want to hear. Shortly after forming in late 08" Brisbane 4 piece Crystal Radios put away their musical soldering irons & released their debut ep" Be my Guest. "As a band new to their post the moves they"re pulling are pretty well spot on the mark. Each song has its own treats, both dark yet jaunty, and reminiscent of „90s faves Front End Loader or Blackeyed Susans. For a self-produced debut record, this is a refreshing triumph " (Excerpt/ EP review > Simon Topper Rave Magazine / May Aug 2011 sees the band releasing their 2nd ep" CLEAR at the Brisbane Powerhouse. The ep' also features a few guest performances from other Brissy outfits who dropped in to the bands studio during the recording as well as long time friend & producer Jeff Lovejoy (Black Box) for additional recordings / mixing and Leon Zervos (301 Sydney) for mastering duties. CRYSTAL RADIOS – Clear EP(RAVE magazine review Aug2011) "Like a box of chocolates" Despite being called Clear, the latest EP from Crystal Radios is anything but. Not that this is a bad thing, as it treats the listener to a myriad of different genres, even within each song. There's everything from folk, postrock and blues to alt-country. As a result, they deliver a somewhat skilfully disjointed collection of songs that jump from one emotion to another. Opener Day In Day Out is perhaps the worst (or best) offender with shimmering, bright guitars that weave in out of psychedelic effects. Yet somehow the song still maintains a sense of pop conventionality thanks to the strong and straightforward vocal delivery of Murray Johnstone. Hook, Line And Sinker on the other hand is a far more upbeat number with its slinky blues texture that wouldn't be out of place on the jukebox of any hardened bar. It's an EP that must be listened through from start to finish to fully appreciate the diversity that it has to offer. Crystal Radios ep' Clear is out now on Brisbane independent label Jarsonic and available from i-tunes or from the websites listed below.
