About me:

CHECK OUT BEN RIGGERS MYSPACE PAGE VIDEOS SECTION WHERE HE IS UPLOADING FULL SHOWS FROM 1986 AND 1987........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ After a fantastic 1992 1993 couldn't have been more different and disappointing for music full of old songs rehashed, old rockers trying to hold onto their youth by their fingernails and a lack of imagination throughout. Staffs73 asked me a few weeks ago why I thought 1993 was so bad and I have come up with the following reasons 1993 was a year of transition throughout British music Indie faves like Happy Mondays and Stone Roses had gone, Rock and Heavy Metal were dying Stock Aitken and Waterman were almost finished no Kylie no Jason. Dance had moved to mainland Europe in the form of Techno. It would be another year at least before R&B got its act together Britpop was still a long way away and the Boyband thing was still in nappies basically 1993 was a no mans land for any sort of style. 1993 was the year that would change the music scene in radioland too up until now radio 1 had not fallen into line with its Independant Radio rivals who had mostly split their stations into two, Radio 1 still had the "smashie and nicey" dj's of Davies, DLT and Wright but in 1993 radio 1 finally realised that their aging dj's did not reflect the 90's youth and in late 1993 the station threw out the old and brought in new young cool presenters like Steve Lamaq and Jo Wiley (not cool in my opinion couldn't stand them myself). As a confused nation didn't know whether to move to radio 2, stick with the new radio 1 or move to ILR the charts reflected this with a diet of old songs rereleased and old acts with new or cover material As it wasn't until late 1993 that radio 1 revamped and became 1FM for a while that 1993's chart would be full of the old tried and tested acts like Rod Stewart, Sting and Rolf Harris. My final reason that 1993 was bad is a personal one 1992 I had spent lounging around during the hot summer playing football and cricket and doing not much else but 1993 brought for me the end of normal school life the realisation that i had to decide on further education or work and this was quite an upsetting year so maybe its me that sees 1993 as a bad because of my life changes and the music reminds me of it, whichever it is all i can say is roll on 1994 you were so much better if you liked 1993's music enjoy!

Who I'd like to meet:

Welcome to 1992 a good year i think as far as the music went unfortunately singles sales were in the mire and as a result there were only 13 official number 1's and bizarrely with what was to come in future years all the number's were there for more than a week. Decent songs this year included dance songs from the likes of Snap!, and The Shamen. Some soppy ballads from Boyz II Men and Whitney Houston. Though 92 may well be remembered as the year when groups went mad for children's tv themes and also the year when games console manufacturer's saw a money making scheme and put out there top games theme songs as dance songs. All in all 1992 was great but 1993 oh 1993 please dont mention 1993 to me i'm not looking forward to uploading those charts.
