As the new Senior Vice Commander of
DAV chapter 102, and my involvement with "Veterans
for Freedom" and "Gathering of Eagles"
my days are full. I wish I
could spend more time on here..
I am a staunch Republican,
but I don't get all wrapped up in religion. I don't need to go to a building
once a week to know what is in my heart.
As a Disabled Vet I am very
vocal and active when it comes to Veterans benefits and how they should be
treated.
Many have wounds and scars
that are not visible, yet no less painful.
My Family is everything,
mess with them and you have made a serious mistake.
We are stuck with Hussien
Obama for the next 4 years, and I will be watching his every move. It is the Socialist
Lowlife he attracts I fear the most.
If not checked, they will
give away everything from our Constitution to our last dollar.
I will not tolerate Illegal
Immigrants or anyone who harbors them.
For those on the other side of the
fence who continue to play games and send idol threats, You need to be
warned......."I Fear not
Death, so ye might need Fear me". For the dense ones out there, it simply means
you better kill me with the first shot, you won't get a second.
My youngest and only son
"Richard". The Next Generation in "The Vanguard Family" serving our
country in uniform. Home safe and sound now.
My Beautiful Daughter "Rachel" and source of
most my Grey Hair :) But the Mom of 3 of the greatest kids on this earth. The Joy they
bring me every day "ALMOST" makes up for all the grief :)
And the oldest and most Stubborn,
Opinionated, Hardheaded of my Trio....."Danielle" She is more like her
father than she wants to admit. That's also why I love her so much despite the aggravation
she enjoys putting me through at times.

My Son PFC Richard Vanguard* - He savors his freedom and does not know how to give up. He saved my life by stopping the bleeding until Medics arrived. Most would have
panicked at the gruesome sight of my leg.
Yet he kept his cool and laid my head on his lap and lit me a smoke telling me it would be ok.
At 19 he is twice the man I am. I Love you Son.
My daughter Rachel - Despite all the adversity she has been through, to include raising 3 kids while her husband is on his 3rd deployment. Love ya Kid
My Wife Barbara Jean for enduring my Army career and the long separations and hospital
stays. Not only I, but so many military families owe you so much. You never looked at rank or
position only the heart.
You are Loved and Respected literally by thousands for your Heart and Compassion.
You are the most beautiful person inside and out that I know. Not to mention for a Grandmother
of 3 you are still one Sexy looking broad - I'm done now and we are inseparable,
you never gave up on me despite all my injuries. It was worth the wait my Love...I Love You
more than I can describe and want the world to know it.

I have served under 7 Commanders in Chief, missed more Holidays and Birthdays
than I can count. Survived Temps from 140*F to -60*F.
I have been to more countries than I can recall, some no longer exist.
I have stopped lots of Bad Guys who deserved it
and I have helped lots of Good Guys when no other country would.
I have jumped out of perfectly good Airplanes, and dove past 150 feet in the
Pacific. Blown many things up, and built many things up.
I have made
LOTS of friends, and I have made
EVEN MORE of enemies.
I have worn really cool looking clothes with lots of shiny medals and patches.
I miss wearing them and I am proud of those shiny things.
I have been Wounded several times in my Career
, and each time it was worth it
I have seen the worst
War brings out in people as I have seen the Best
and more often.
I have lived the words of a very famous movie. "Grandpa were you a Hero" - "No Michael but I served in the company of Heroes"
I was honored to have a soldier by the name of Sergeant First Class Paul Ray Smith serve with me. "Smitty" lost his life on 4 April 2003 saving dozens of soldiers.
Two years later he was awarded the
Medal of
Honor. I am proud to have called him my soldier and friend.
Paul is just one of many I bestow the term Hero. Most
never came home. Most returned again and again because they believed.
Like SGT. John Mele KIA 2007 on his 3rd tour, he was one of those
Smitty saved in 2003
None of them died alone and none will ever be
forgotten.
Wounded and classified as 80% disabled I continue my fight from a wheelchair for my
Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen.
I work with Organizations like "Gathering
of Eagles" - "Veterans
for Freedom" - "Patriot
Guard Riders" and
the "Wounded Warrior
Project" to name just a few.
To all my Viet Nam Brothers who raised me to be a man "Welcome Home Guys"
So what does this all mean ? I'll let you decide, I will be a Soldier till the day that I die.
