PHILO-ASS-PHY
CTHUWULF (key-tow-wolf) originally formed in March of 2002 out of the ashes of HAISHA (who sucked, don't bother) and whichever 7+ bands George whored his sticks out for. The goal at the time was, well, to "try" and play Japanese noisecore and Euro/Scandi discore in the highly concentrated vein of CRUDITY, MOB 47/PROTES BENGT/DISCARD, GAI/SWANKYS/SIEG HEIL, SHITLICKERS, CONFUSE, FRIGORA, EU'S ARSE, DISORDER, and of course DISCLOSE (duh). The band's actual output ended up coming closer to a fusion of only a couple of the above-mentioned godheads (not for a lack of trying though) laced with early fastcore ala Australia's DEATH SENTENCE (GREAT band by the way!), the state's own REVENGE OF THE WHORES, Finland's SORTO, and according to one fan or two early NAPALM DEATH and FEAR OF GOD (both bands we worship, but that wasn't the "intent").
Looking back, we probably subconciously just tossed in ANY damn influence we pleased seeing as we're music junkies in general swearing no allegiance to any one style (except Japcore...KNEEL TO IT'S INCREDIBLENESS!!!). For a frame of reference on our true inspirational style, the riffs for "The Kids Are Uptight" were actually inspired by the soundtrack to FLASH GORDON, and if I'm not being too senile here George wrote "Nuke L.A." IN A DREAM!!! (now THAT's punk rock!).
After recording 3 demos on EXCRUCIATING TERROR'S old 4-track (we LOVE trivia!) the band got arguably "tighter" (HA HA HA HA!!!) and made several attempts at eps (once again, on the 4-track) that never got released due to...well hey why waste words, FLAKERY. One release DID gimp it's way out the gate and that was the split boot ep with live GAI (which were actually SWANKYS re-doing GAI tracks...it's a loooooong story). We also lucked out with our GODLFESH tribute 2xCD(r) comp track. There does exist a split live tape with VANSINNIG LIV, but those lot are wankers and we don't recognize that release whatsovever. Releases that still haven't come out to this day are the one-sided ep "We Are The Swank Black Doves", debut 7" "Life's Flame", split one-sided 10"/12" with SIVIILIMURHA (a.k.a.: "Armageddon Ace" session), 2 comp tracks (FEAR OF GOD tribute cd and RESCUED FROM LIFE's perpetually-on-hiatus comp CD/LP), and our "farewell" one-sided ep "Echo An Eternity". Supposedly "Life's Flame" is still gonna happen (covers were printed 2 years ago) and MERCILESS GAME has shown interest in doing a split ep with one of our one-sider materials...but who knows. "Definite" plans of a pro-tape of all this material (also including George and Sean's joke side band COPROPHAGICS) should HOPEFULLY come out on UGLY SMOKERS tapes in Malaysia. Any labels who wanna help out with catching up on the flaked-out eps though...who are we kidding NO ONE wants to help us out.
Old lyrics...were fucking brutal. Sean was having an "emo moment" with a girl as well as was trying to resolve an extremely nasty alcohol problem at the time. But hey, we shaped up (sort of) and started throwing in our unwanted 2-cents on India & Pakistan almost nuking themselves a few years back, ageism in the scene, L.A.'s absurd violence, committing intentional global genocide, false date rape accusations, mental illness...you name it (even ANIME!). We're still haters, but more like happy-go-lucky nihilists now. Thinking positive and enjoying our lives and hobbies is a helluva lot better than brooding/posing on "hating the system" and only seeing dark in the world.
Cthu is, was, and always shall be George on drums, Sean on guitar, and Sam on throat. (Sean previously handled vokes too when the band started as more of a project). Only one real show was played. We were unrehearsed, forgetting lyrics, and as usual cursed with borrowing broken equipment, but the SURPRISING amount of claps (and one girl who said we were so noisy she was going to THROW UP) just totally made our decade. Then...kaput, the band was dead. That temporary hiatus (Sean moved to Minnesota to "find himself") will soon be lifted in October when we'll reunite for a self-financed 12". 15 original songs have already been written (maybe more to come?) as well as a few old "classics" will be re-recorded (plus the obligatory covers we have every intention of destroying). Sean's even hard(ly) at work on the cover art...so keep those fingers crossed none of us drops out of the scene before it's time to record this fucking thing (and yes, we're gonna use a REAL studio finally).
So, this is it for now noisenheimers...cheers to ALL FUCKERS for the support thus far! (you know who you are!).
George/Sam/Sean...CTHUWULF!
P.S.: Yes we love H.P. Lovecraft, but our name was taken from the 80s anime ICZER-ONE. Scope it and be...perplexed.
