About me:
Mission Statement for CTK 2008
Northern Kentucky University will be hosting the 12th annual Come Together Kentucky conference. The conference seeks to reach out to the queer and ally communities in and around the state of Kentucky as a means of offering education about the queer community, interpersonal relationships, advocating on campus, and the prevention of HIV and other STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections). We will provide a safe space for building fellowship, provide education about LGBTQA issues, and foster a harmonious environment absent of discrimination and intolerance.
History of CTK
Come Together Kentucky was initiated by University of Kentucky's Lambda Organization in 1994-1995 to bring gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and transgender students of Kentucky's colleges and universities together. UK Lambda realized that these groups were forming and growing strong at all of the institutions, but they had very little contact with each other. The conference would serve not only as a friendly gathering, but also as a functional means for these students to learn from each other and to get training and education from the workshops on how best to further the causes of LGBTQA students.
After the success of the first conference, the students decided to continue the tradition begun by UK Lambda and host another conference the following year at the University of Louisville. It was not long before parties at the state level began to take notice of our little conference and provided funding for its production so long as a prominent part of the conference's programming featured tracts on HIV prevention and safer sex practices including abstinance.
