Michael Boyd
Noted for his work on electric bass with jazz group Big Brother’s Brother, Mike Boyd left Cleveland for Austin in early 2008 to pursue his dream of building a small group with a big sound. Since then, he’s added an 8-string guitar, a midi synth and an Ableton rig, yielding a sound by himself that’s fuller than many bands!
Amy Sage
Texas native and UT Austin graduate Amy Sage has sung with a number of critically acclaimed choral groups, including the University of Texas Chamber Singers and the Conspirare Choir of Austin. As part of Ctrl V, Amy uses a looper and vocal effects to create a rich vocal fabric that complements Mike’s guitar lines for a sound that’s both danceable and beautiful.
Ctrl V’s original music pulls aspects from just about every musical genre, from jazz to rock to folk to psychedelic — and Mike’s complex improvisational style ensures that every song goes somewhere new, and no two live performances are ever the same.
Thanks much! Yeah that guitar is amazing. Even if I hated your songs I'd love to see you guys play just so I could see it in action hah! They're supposed to be better for your wrist/natural curve of the hand? There's another company where the entire guitar neck is actually bent in a slant as it reaches the headstock so that it conforms with your wrist too- so you don't have to reach around the neck so much to play it. I've never seen one in person but the idea always seemed cool.
Great songs guys. I looked at some of your photos and noticed the 8 string guitar you were playing - I didn't know they were still making those necks? I first saw those necks with the sort of 'sunrise fanned' fret boards about 10 years ago and then never saw them again... what guitar is that you're playing that's still using them?
