Recent news:
In 2006 we had the great fortune of having Israel"CACHAO Lopez" sit in with Cubanoson. Then, we opened for BRENDA K. STARR. In 2007, we made it into the LATIN GRAMMYs. April 2007, we were on the bill at NY's LQ with EDDIE PALMIERI, JOHNNY PACHECO, EL CANARIO AND CUBANOSON. In 2008, we had the privilege of having MARCELINO VALDES and LALO RODRIGUEZ, sit in with the band. Later in the year at the NJPAC, we opened up a Latin Jazz Weekend or Paquito D'Rivera. In 2009 we had the privilege to open the NYC SALSA CONGRESS for EDDIE PALMIERI, and in October, we are opening for two legends MILLY QUESADA and JOHNNY VENTURA. What's coming soon? On October 30 we celebrate our 4th anniversary at NJPAC once again opening for Paquito D'Rivera, and the Tito Puente Orchestra. Also coming soon, 2 promotional videos and a new CD scheduled for 1/1/10. Stay tuned.

September 3rd, 2009 - Cubanoson opened up the world's largest salsa congress, the NYC Salsa Congress.
October 30th, 2008 marked Cubanoson's 3rd anniversary. I want to thank all the loyal musicians that have partaken this endeavor with me, in creating and maintaining the professional, swinging great orchestra we are, special thanks to our musical director and lead trumpet, Roberto Rodriguez.
Just released, Cubanoson's title track "Recordando A Cuba" licensed for two compilations: La Noche Cubana Vol. 27 out of Italy and for the Rough Salsa Guide Series out of the United Kingdom! (See the CD covers on the left side.)
Cubanoson is a traditional Cuban dance orchestra as created by pianist, Leonel Papo Ortega. This musically inspired pianist and composer has enjoyed the privilege of working alongside several exceptional musicians, among them, trumpeter Roberto Rodriguez, (musical director for Johhny Pacheco), trumpeter Chocolate Armenteros (See Jam Video below), trumpeter Lionel Sanchez (La Sonora Matancera), Tresero Junior Rivera, the great flautist José Fajardo and two of the greatest percussionists, Luisito Quintero & Cándido Camero.
Cubanoson unites the Punto Cubano and the Son Montuno bringing danceable Cuban music to any event (public or private), concert or festival. The purpose of this orchestra is to unite the talent and dedication of excellent contemporary musicians (true exponents of our roots), to offer and express our traditional Cuban music to all cultural venues. Cubanoson honors the great artists who have bestowed upon us the utmost musical education. To them and others who have passed on our music through generations, we will continue honoring them with New York's Cuban dance orchestra, Cubanoson!
