GeneralPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The Boise University Cultural Center exists to serve all the students of Boise State University irregardless of race, sexual orientation, religion, gender identity or ethnicity. It’s goals are ambitious and it’s focus is simple. We want to be a place where people come to discuss issues they might not be able to discuss anywhere else. We want to facilitate cross cultural understanding by raising awareness about the steps of identity development. We want to host passionate discussions and answer burning questions. We want to allow students to learn more about how to get involved with issues of social justice, equal opportunity and access. We’d like students to come away with new ways of thinking and challenging themselves to redefine notions of “tradition” and “diversity”. We want students to be agents of the social change they want to see.

We have had the pleasure of hiring several local very talented artists and we reccomend these ones:
  • Rochelle Smith- catch her at local venues for a treat! Her blend of vocals and guitar are a beautiful mixture.
  • Becca George- she usually performs with Rochelle Smith. This young lady will blow you away with her voice.
  • Kritik-She raps about social issues and motivates! Catch her at local venues.
  • Double O Ryders- from Ontario Oregon. These two talented young rappers have performed for us and brought the house down in English and Spanish.
  • Proverb- a local rapper who keeps his raps clean and real.
  • Elisabeth Blin- This talented guitarist performs French and Brazilian music flawlessly. She usually perfoms at the Cafe du Paris in downtown Boise.

    About me:
Welcome to the Boise State University Cultural Center's MySpace! We have created this account to interact with those that are interested in the work we do on campus. A large part of what we do is raise awareness about things that do not normally get discussed. You will read things on our site that you may never have considered, thought about, agree with or support. We encourage that you become a member of our site with open mind and open heart and understand that dialogue is a step in the right direction.

Our mission: The Cultural Center at Boise State University is committed to raising awareness and understanding about marginalized and oppressed groups in both minority and dominant culture, creating understanding about the needs of these groups and providing opportunities to all for action and interaction. We focus on education in the areas of identity development, issues of power and privilege, social justice and internalized oppression and promote an environment where people with different values and beliefs are treated with respect and dignity.

Minuteman President, Chris Simcox will be speaking at BSU Tue 12/04th The Minutemen refer to themselves as a civilian border patrol group who call themselves the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. Simcox, Minuteman President of the civilian border patrol group leads volunteers that patrol borders of the United States with Canada and Mexico.
Simcox was invited to Boise by the Boise State College Republicans. "Simcox has had great success in raising awareness of the illegal immigration problem among student populations at other schools," said Jonathan Sawmiller, a BSU college Republican, in a prepared statement. "His first-hand perspective will be a great addition to the diversity of illegal immigration views currently being promoted on campus."
His speech is free and is sponsored by the Boise State Conservative Student Coalition. The lecture is at 7 p.m. In the Lookout Room of the Boise State Student Union Building.

    MUCH better than MANKILLER

This person sounds like a real patriotic
citizen. I am thrilled that such a group exists at liberal and PC BSU.

It is time we quit worrying about mankillers who want to fuss about menial issues and listen to people who know what issues really matter. I am surprised someone who is in favor of border security and someone who supports Americans is allowed in Idaho since our legislature is full of farmers who support shipping in illegal aliens into Idaho to do work for them because they have something against paying a US Citizen a living wage. I think Chris Simcox is in touch with humanity as opposed to Mankiller since his nation will allow legal immigration.

My Dear Friends on Myspace I am asking for your help--

My son got the message of The Tunnel Of Oppression! Keep in mind he is 14 and at that age typically aren't the most apathetic group. We talked about the different themes and how each one of them impacted us individually. The dialogue that was going on between us all weekend about the Tunnel was great! He had questions and some I had answers for and some I didn't. He told me he couldn't stop thinking about it. He took his experience from the Tunnel Of Oppression and he carried over the dialogue to his peers, teachers, and his BSU tutor. He asked the BSU tutor if she went and she said no but she had wanted to...that is all he needed to here. He filled her in on what she missed out on! He said the tent experience got to him the most. Mine was when I was seperated from my son in the chaos and they pulled me aside to take my picture holding a white platcard. Being seperated from him and not knowing where the took him freaked me out! When I found him in the back of the dark truck and people yelling at all of us in language that we have a limited understanding of that was scary. Imagine not knowing where your going, what is in store for you when you have reached the destination point they have in mind for you. He has been to a ton of BSU events and he has never walked away from one affecting him the way in which The Tunnel did!

    ~ Shackles~ Womankind Enchained
Dear Womankind And Mankind, My Fellow Humankind,

To be an informed individual aware of issues impacting all of humankind, one tends to seek and be exposed to vital news and information that everybody must become aware of and know. - But unfortunately, the separating wall of ignorance built by the mass media shields a large majority of the world's population from being exposed to the truth, one of which is the barbaric and tragic problem of human trafficking and slavery.

Slavery and generally any social, political, economic injustices, anywhere, is a direct threat aimed at the social justice, political and economic existence and stability everywhere. - The lack of action and the obvious indifference exhibited by those nations capable of exposing and stopping these known atrocities are obviously perceived by the oppressed people as a green light given to the perpetrators and those responsible for many on going human tragedies, the biggest of which are slavery, lack of female equality and female denigration."

Hello. I wrote to you before. Sorry if I haven’t been writing to you in a while, so it seems. I just wanted to let you know that I am a young adult with a development disability (Autism) and I am involved in an organization with other with development disabilities. Ever since I joint this organization, some of the things we talk about are equal rights, discrimination and other things. With that said, I was thinking that you can be an ally. Well, Let me know if you have any advice to keep me strong.
