"We are a troupe of individuals who, through the power of music and dance, cultivate self-worth, dignity, and respect for all people."
our history... Culture Shock® is a non-profit 501(c)(3) hip-hop dance troupe dedicated to cutting-edge entertainment, dance education and outreach to diverse communities. Founded in 1993 by Nike Dance Trainer Angie Bunch, Culture Shock has grown from its home location of San Diego to cities across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The Chicago branch was established in 1998 and provides a healthy, positive environment for dancers to experience personal growth, teamwork, confidence building, and leadership. The troupe also offers an alleyway for dancers that would like to move into the professional industry and pursue recognition in films, commercials, and music videos. Culture Shock® performs regularly in schools, festivals and for corporate parties and private gigs.
Our Hip Hop Workshops are a supplementary program to our performances in schools. The workshops include lectures, demos, panelists and discussion forums about various aspects of hip hop culture as it relates to hip hop dance.
Culture Shock® Chicago continues to strive for excellence through community outreach programs and by raising the bar for hip hop dance performance in Chicago and beyond.
