Concordia opened its doors for the first time at its current location in 1905. The school began as a four-year academy to meet the needs of the region for pastors and school teachers for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The campus has evolved into a university that offers a solid liberal arts education, pre-professional programs, professional church work programs, and undergraduate and graduate degrees in education and business. The campus’ 1,500 students come from all over the United States and the world, but primarily from the Pacific Northwest.
Concordia University is a Christian university preparing leaders for the transformation of society. Located on 13 acres in a residential neighborhood of Portland, Concordia’s mission drives all planning in academics and future directions. The campus builds on its strengths, pursuing programs that will assist students to prepare for work or to enhance their pursuit of lifelong learning. Students, staff, and faculty — the Concordia community — are valued as the most important components of this campus, as all strive to encourage, support, and equip for service and fulfillment.

Concordia University is a Private Lutheran College in Portland, Oregon. We welcome students of any faith and encourage you to come visit our campus and see some of the changes we are seeing on campus.
We are currently undergoing a great period of growth. For more than a century Concordia has embraced a common purpose: service to students, service to the church and service to the community. Our successful programs have led to tremendous growth, and we are compelled to do more for those we serve.
In April 2008 we broke ground on a new library and learning center, marking the beginning of a significant addition to the campus and the community.
Upcoming we will also be renovating the current library into a student union, and will be building a new athletic complex for baseball and soccer.
The Concordia University Throw Center is also under development, as the only dedicated throwing facility in the country. The center will include a basketball court-sized rain shelter for throwing in the Oregon elements, as well as traditional uncovered circles and runways. The center will become the focus of throwers in high school, college and post-collegiate levels with the talent and passion to compete in Olympics.
