I Curbstones sono i fratelli Luca (chitarra e voce) e Ste (batteria), a cui si aggiunge Nico (basso). Le radici di questo progetto risiedono in un gruppo di amici che, a partire dal 2001, si susseguono attorno a Luca e Ste cimentandosi nei vari strumenti fino a raggiunge la formazione definitiva, quella attuale. Da subito nascono le prime canzoni originali, mentre i ragazzi fanno esperienza suonando le cover di gruppi come Nirvana, Foo Fighters e Verdena. Nel 2003, appena 17enni, partecipano al concorso “Emergenza Rock”, arrivando alla finale italiana durante la quale ricevono una menzione speciale della giuria.
Il gruppo matura parecchio dopo l’ultimo cambio di formazione (gen 2007), passando dal quartetto al trio. Il processo di composizione diventa molto più spontaneo e semplice, traendo spunto da nuovi ascolti (Biffy Clyro su tutti), che confluiscono nelle canzoni in maniera diretta. Il gruppo passa un anno in saletta lavorando sodo su nuovi pezzi prima di tornare all’attività live, e in questo periodo trova una nuova alchimia, che nasce dall’ottimo rapporto musicale e personale tra i tre componenti. I tre si pongono inoltre l’obbiettivo di scrivere i nuovi testi in italiano e di tradurre quelli delle vecchie canzoni.
Oggi il punto di forza dei Curbstones è la musica, e solo la musica. L’attività in saletta è molto intensa e sfocia, di tanto in tanto, in sessioni di registrazione. Purtroppo il gruppo è sempre stato penalizzato nella ricerca di serate dal genere musicale, osteggiato dalla maggior parte dei locali. Nonostante ciò, il trio non ha mai smesso di credere con convinzione nel proprio valore e nella spontaneità del proprio messaggio.
Principali esperienze live: Rolling Stone, Area 51, Spazio Aurora, Cantiere Delirio, Stomp Billiard, Uragano, Casa del Tempo, Rainbow, Sagap’ò, Villa Arconati, Ripa90, Marmaja, Circolo Magnolia, Bloom; più i vari concerti in centri di aggregazione giovanile (Arese, Rho, Novate), centri sociali (Vittoria, Cantiere, Bulk, Leoncavallo), circoli ARCI e feste private e scolastiche.
Curbstones formed in 2001 and played several local venues in Milan. They started covering Nirvana and Foo Fighters songs, but they began creating their own music after only 2 weeks together. The original members of the band were: Luc, vocals and guitar; Ste, Luc's younger brother, on drums; Pidda, bass; and Tia, guitar. In 2003 they reached the European Emergenza Rock Final, playing at "Rolling Stones" in Milan. They gained the "Best young band" and the "Best emerging band" by the jury in that competition. In 2004 their live performance of "Velables" has been selected for the "Aspettando Sconcerti" compilation. In the late 2004 Pidda left for personal reasons and Nico, the former best fan of the band, joined the band as the new bassist. It was incredible how, in only one month, he learnt how to play our songs, bringing a diffrent, rude sound in it. In late 2006 they finished recording the first single of the brand new album, TWS. At the moment, after the departure of Mattia by the band, they are trying to create new songs in 3, Luca, Ste and Nico. In April we home recorded our first demo, with 4 songs (the ones in the player). Our minds are not stopped: we are playing a lot on our own, writing new songs, going to many concerts (Biffy Clyro, Verdena..Munich!) and we are planning to come back to perform live soon..maybe late October!
