This is the official MySpace site of the UK's annual picnic in honour of The Cure. This event first happened in 2004, and because of its popularity I decided to make it an annual event. It takes place in Twickenham at the York House Gardens, where The Cure originally filmed their music video for 'The Hanging Garden'.
The gardens are rather 'secret', as in they can be quite difficult to find because they are a bit off the beaten track. There are two ways into the gardens, either over a bridge from York House, or via a gate down a path next to the River Thames.
Well secluded, this is a great spot for Cure fans to gather each year and have a picnic/drink etc.
Please do not bring any loud stereos or any form of amplified music out of respect to locals in the area. Acoustic guitars are encouraged though, that can be fun!
If you bring drinks/food etc, I ask that you please respect the gardens and dispose of any rubbish at the end of the day. I don't fancy picking up after too many people, thank you.
Afterwards we often take over the beer garden of one of two riverside pubs, depending on where people want to go at the time. We'll just play that one by ear.
So, if any Cure fans out there fancy joining us each year for this event, please feel free to add us to your friends page, and I will post bulletins to announce the dates when I know them. Have a look at the gallery for photos from the past 4 years. If you have been to one of these picnics before, you're probably in the gallery somewhere!
2009
The 6th annual Cure/goth/alternative picnic is going to be on Sunday 12th July 2009. Hope you can all drag yer bottoms out and join us for a picnic and a fun afternoon. Pop this date in your diaries.
Please respect the gardens and dispose of your rubbish afterwards.
A location map of York House is HERE, and the gardens are where it says "Italian Fountain".
As per usual we will follow on by having drinks at The Barmy Arms pub, right next to the gardens by the riverside.
Hope lots of you can make it. Let's make it a good un.
Thanks for accepting the add (and sorry for the late reply)! While I wasn't able to join now, my wife and I are finally making to the UK in late october, and we'll sure to have our own private cure picnic. Thanks for the tips on finding the garden...
Thanks for organizing a thouroughly pleasant afternoon out of the house. despite the place being over run with geordies it was a surprisingly great afternoon ;) It was great to meet slash and his sexy wife :)
get your finger out, why haven't you got more on your friends list. Its not hard to find Goths and Cure fans,
They are like an infestation, an inept primeval soup of proteins and amino acids. So until they evolve into a human species and are lost for ever, add them and send them on the picnic.
I am not now nor ever have been a member of a Gothicism.
