Magdalene, Woman of Light is a rock-opera (spoken-word theatre meets musical) that weaves the story of the life of Mary Magdalene, from her birth in Egypt and early training as a high priestess, to the search for her beloved, Jesus Christ. It continues with his elevation of her as the first of his Apostles, the one he entrusts with carrying on his legacy, and the challenge this causes between Magdalene and the Apostle Peter.

Colorado Theatre Guild New Venture Series presents . . .

    DESERT DEVILS
    ~A free staged play reading~
    Wednesday May 21, 2008 — 7:30 PM
    Vintage Theatre
    2119 E.
    17th Avenue
    Denver, CO

Featuring Carol Rust, Judy Hill, Patty Figel and Lisa Mumpton.

Directed by the playwright with the assistance of Kristine McGovern.

Set in the formerly oil-rich desert Southwest, this play explores the lives of three generations of women living under one roof. The story centers on Jo who, after her father dies, takes in her feisty mother. Jo’s daughter, Leota Ruth, a self-mutilating poet approaching middle-age, is in her mother’s care. The dialogue between them and with a long-time neighbor is, at once, outrageously funny and heart-breakingly tragic. These women tear and rip into one another’s psyche with reckless abandon and something barely resembling love. The cookies in question may or may not be poisoned, but just beneath the surface these women hide a more potent poison—the deadly venom accumulated over years of unfulfilled dreams mixed with the sudden and bitter acceptance of a life unrealized. If you like your tragedies hysterically funny then take a bite of this. Desert Devils is based on Tough Cookies, a one-act play by ECW published by Samuel French, Inc.
