Curl Curl is a suburb of northern Sydney, Australia. Curl Curl is located 18 kilometres north-east of the central Sydney and is part of the Northern Beaches region.
The stretch of beach at Curl Curl is known for some of the best surfing on the Northern Beaches. Curl Curl Beach has two volunteer surf lifesaving clubs, and there are saltwater rockpools at each end of the beach.
Curl Curl may have been derived from the Aboriginal phrase curial curial, meaning river of life.
In 2004 we set up Curl Curl Music, a niche label specializing in house music from New Zealand and Australia, distributed worldwide through Intergroove, Germany. The label is run jointly by Phil Brökelmann and André Quaas (also owner of Moon Harbour Rec). Conceptually it circles around original local house music in conjunction with European remixes.
A new Curl Curl 12" is on the horizon for early 2010: Distance Learning by various artists.
Simon Flower has been one of the protagonists behind the so-called New Zealand electronic deepness. His latest rise on Poker Flat is backed up by another track on Curl Curl, Eyes and Teeth: firmly aimed at the modern house floor.
Chris Lattner (Fear Of Flying, Moon Harbour) joins our Curl Curl kaleidoscope with a stripped back rolling remix of my own Black Dog, recommended for all lovers of Murmur and the like. Thanks Chris!
Pikaya (Cadenza) take up the honor to remix Andi Numan's epic Glass Roots. Once again Pikaya deliver their unparalleled cinematic message, microfunk as hell yet deep as a skateboard bowl.
At last, a new mix of the old Mornin' Tide track by Shortboard, thrown in for good measure, and because I bought new speakers since then. I always felt the mix of the original wasn't quite there yet.. So here you go.. all out in February 2010 through Intergroove (vinyl) and Beatport.

Andi Numan, another newcomer of New Zealand origin, presents his ingenious take on house, fusing traditional acid and contemporary styles with ease. We are excited. This one goes out to everybody feeling tired with deep house, abandoned or stuck with techno, but still looking for the one beat, that rules them all.
Andi Numan studied various instruments like piano from a young age of three years. In the early Ninties he got sucked into the young electronic music scene, fell in love with analogue gear and started DJ-ing at open air events and abandoned warehouses. Today his productions are still influenced, he says, by these warehouse experiences, dirty cities and world travel and at the same time by fresh air, nature and meditation. Currently based in South-East Asia, Andi Numan keeps up to date with the spectrum of techno, in his own way. Welcome again to forward thinking underground House music.

Simon Flower, who since his first release on Curl Curl left his mark with productions on Poker Flat, Moon Harbour, Compost Black Label and Railyard, now returns with his second 12” on Curl Curl: Still Here, Still There.
While residing a world away from North America on the idyllic isles of New Zealand, here he makes a heavy nod to the Detroit of the early 90’s. He mixes it with his own deep hypnotic style, resulting in a release which sounds uncoventional yet combines the multi-layered repetition of an almost timeless techno style.
The key to Flower’s unique sound is the influence from his well-honed and organic live set, which has lead to growing bookings across Europe. Both parts of Still Here, Still There match funk and dancefloor pressure, and have been integrel to his live set for years. Due to their blistering reception on dance floors, it was decided to record them for release on Curl Curl.
