    But that's the sacrifice
    For your petty life
    In this vampires empire
    You were born to suffer

    What do I believe
    and where do I sign?
    And where is the ring?
    And when do I die?
    And do as I say
    and ya better oblige
    Cuz interest rates will rise
    but you too shall rise...

Sounds Like"If Sinead O'Connor fronted for Christian Death."

Trout's vocals have been compared to Siouxsie Sioux, Deborah Harry, Dale Bozzio, Lene Lovich, Exene Cervenka and Jewel.

"Original music doesn't get much more original than Brooke Trout. Plugged into her beat-box and slinging her electric guitar she takes us into her strange and wonderful world full of funny, punny, thought-provoking lyrics, driving fuzz-wah guitar, and disturbingly entertaining vocal acrobatics."
    Aaron Black, Los Angeles SongsAlive!

"Cover tunes can be original and fun! Brooke performed a folk blues version of Stevie Wonder’s 'Livin for the City.' The audience huffed and puffed and danced a jig."
    The Santa Maria Times

Brooke Trout was nominated for the 2007 All Access Music Awards show in three categories including Best female guitarist (Rock, Melodic Blues), Best female guitarist (Pop, Alternative), and Best songwriter!

    PRAYER

    We prayed then
    In the banks of destitution
    Seeking solace in confinary
    Institutions of refinery
    Pretty slavery
    Shattered glass ceiling
    Release them
    Strike with divine intervention
    Divining rod
    We are more than sand
    We are god
    We thirst for completion
    But fear sucks us dry
    Of love and life
    All are one
    All are sundered
    Indentured servitude
    can not sustain this fruit
    Enrich this soil
    This soul
    this heart
    Remember the beauty
    Remember your art
    Creator,
    creation
    Never truer
    Never invalid
We are beautiful molecules of righteousness
And our light of truth will release us
In the laborless field of fear
Our broken spirits will rise again

    -Title Track/Networth

New album Networth now available on CDBaby!

    BROOKE TROUT: Networth

Brooke Trout's signature polyphonic mix of punk, blues and ska returns with her second album Networth (Empire Recording Studio) featuring mixing engineer Chuck Wilson (Andre 3000, Dr. Dre, Rihanna) and mastering by Grammy Award winner Nancy Matter (The Who, Ray Charles). The album was recorded live between two bands, The Treble Hooks & The Anchor Men, capturing a sound that has been compared to X-Ray Spex, Dead Kennedys, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Mr. Bungle and X.

Networth is the follow up to Brooke Trout’s debut alternative new wave album Bittersweet (SoftEgg Studios, 2007). The album achieved airplay on several radio stations and podcasts, as well as positive reviews in the press where Trout was compared to alternative artists like Souixsie Souix, Exene Cervenka and Sinéad O'Connor. Brooke Trout was nominated for All Access Magazine’s 2007 Music Award Show for best female guitarist in a rock, melodic blues category, best female guitarist in a pop, alternative category and best songwriter. In 2008 Brooke Trout was made a Member of the Month for singer/songwriter organization Songsalive!.

Networth is a contrapuntal play with genre; shifting from the the dirty grunge of the title track to the rockabilly jazz synthesis of Mine. Brooke’s bittersweet returns with the haunting Tom Waits inspired harmonica stylings of Hades & Persephone and the ska-polka of Compartmentalized Life.

Lyrically this is a concept album. The economic crisis becomes an introspection on the value of life, love and self-worth. As a follow up to Bittersweet’s scathing satire, Suburban Cocktail, the title track continues to scorch, “I don’t swear by the name of the Lord who you shame with the blame and blood and wine and love in vain/And the screams and the dreams and the reams of the right and the light and the sight you see obscures the truth from you.” The follow up to Bittersweet’s Roller Coaster Lover is the provocative blues jam Get Lucky that compares sex to gambling, "Your mind like a spinning wheel roulette game/Your cards down your chips have fallen off the table/You think that you’ve won but I’ma set you straight/I’m a winning bet/So put it all in me/I’ll help you forget/I’ll break your losing streak/If you put all you have on me."

    Reviews of Networth...

"This chick's Lene Lovich styled vocal delivery is pretty cool. The twangy guitars in the breakdown are tasteful & well done. It's a creative blend of twang, punk, new wave & god know what else...This is something that would've easily fit into the London punk underground back in 1980 or so. This is retro cool & I have no doubt there's an audience for these cats..."- Garageband review of title track by SIIN from Crawfordsville, Indiana

"Here she comes again, swimming into our speakers with a quirky perk that defies strict categorization...Many have noted that Brooke has affection for a ska-ish tempo...accented by her trademark vocal antics, including squeaks, chirps and trills... In the title track, Brooke channels a taste of Alanis Morissette with her biting lyrics, but the voice is all her own....And as for her overall aquatic-themed approach – goodness-gracious, how many liquid metaphors and piscatorial puns can one woman haul on board? Brooke Trout will make you chuckle while you ponder and appreciate her wit and insight." -Rob Swick, All Access Magazine, Los Angeles, CA (For the full review.)

“You did a great job on this album (Networth). Dear John was my favorite track but overall I really appreciated how all the participating musicians seemed to really lean into their parts. The live quality comes across like a cool summer time jam around a campfire...(listen to full live review)”DJ Nette of Nette Radio, Los Angeles, CA

Reviews of Brooke Trout's debut album Bittersweet...

"A solid effort from a tasty female singer-songwriter, who compiled the entire ten-song disk with only one other musician, the versatile Timon Marmex. Hitting all kinds of highs and lows in both her lyrics and her vocals, Brooke squeaks, squeals, and chirps like a quirky new-wave heroine of many years ago, Lene Lovich...A couple of the songs have a punky punch to them, such as 'Suburban Cocktail,' highlighting how expert Brooke is at making various two- and three-chord progressions interesting and fresh...The net result on Bittersweet is a good catch of titillating tuneage. As an accomplished chanteuse who can write and play as well as sing, Brooke Trout is the real deal – well worth reeling in."-Rob Swick, All Access Magazine

"Brooke's fresh-water originals are rooted in Ska & Riot Grrl punk. If Billie Joe Armstrong, David Byrne and Yngwie Malmsteen could be morphed into a guitar & voice, Brooke would be the unique combination of vocal squeals and phased driving rhythms. Her acrobatic vocals, crunchy and thick-toned Ska-influnced guitar makes for an appealing fish-skillet combo of the best Trout in town." -MM, Songsalive.org

"I have met this artist in human form. She appeared to be a disturbingly smart biped, with expansive ideas, schooled in Carl Jung, and the extraordinary ability to see things for what they mean, and to treat symbols as tangible things. I knew at once that she was a subversive, despite her unassuming human form...If you want the plants to grow faster, play Mozart. Brooke sleeps with the fishes. She knows that the sleep of reason produces sea monsters. Sooner or later everything floats to the surface."-Billy Sheppard, Rogue Radio.

    under the stars
    just gaze and listen..

    the silence is loud
    as the moon light
    glistens

    you feel the peace
    hear a whisper
    not the wind
    your intuition..

    you feel the goodness
    deep down your soul..

    God gave you the stars
    to rock and roll

    so every night
    under one bright
    star
    say a blessing
    be thankful
    who you are.
