Over the last three years, I have cycled the Colorado Mountians,
climbing passes as high as 12,000 feet. I Biked across Iowa in
a week and rode from Vancouver to Calgary. Riding with a
group of sixteen, I was the oldest. It's exhilarating to be the
eldest but sad that there are so few people my age cycling.
Curt was born and raised in Nebraska, he moved to
Eastern Pennsylvania 45 years ago. Currently living
along the Delaware River in the idyllic countryside
of Upper Bucks County. I feel I'm living my life
to the fullest, active in my construction company,
cycling, and relaxed with others.
His ride starts on April 28 in Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania
on the edge of the Delaware River. Living only off what he can
carry on his bike, the trip will span approximately 1500 to1600
miles from Eastern Pennsylvania to West Point, Nebraska.
Averaging 75 miles each day, the route will take him
through Easton, PA on the first day to Scranton the
second day. Then across Pennsylvania’s endless mountains.
Following Rt. 6 north of OIL City, PA. He’ll then dip south
to the city and then head west into Ohio. He will follow state
highways across Ohio, staying south of Cleveland by a few miles.
Traveling a westerly route, he will pass through the northern parts
of Indiana and Illinois and enter Iowa, crossing the Mississippi
River at Muscatine, IA. The route then continues west for a day
and gradually meanders north to Grinnell, IA. He will stay between
Interstate 80 and Route 30, passing between Des Moines and
Ames and entering Nebraska at Dekatur. From there it’s a shorter
days ride to West Point, his childhood home town by May 24th.
The trip will take three and a half weeks, which allows for several
days of down time for stormy days and unforeseen delays.
