Influences
Curtis performs songs written by John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Buddy guy, Otis Rush, Willie Dixon, Elmore James, James Brown, Robert Cray and others along with his original hits.
Curtis has appeared with Pinetop Perkins, Dickie Betts, Big Daddy Kinsley and the Kinsley Report, Ronnie Earl, James Cotton, albert Collins, James Montgomery, and the Kingsnakes.
While most blues musicians today learn this music via the blues-rock recordings of Eric Elapton or the Allman Brothers, only later tracing the songs back to the great blues forebearers, Curtis King learned the rudiments of "Vestapol guitar" from his grandfather and father.
The Vestapol-style involves a particular tuning and picking approach indigenous to the Missippi Delta. Born in Alabama, Curtis was brought up on the blues and has played for tips on the streets and coffeehouses of Montreal and Toronto to opening for nationally known recording artists. Curtis plays the best Chicago Blues, with his band Night Life for your enjoyment.
