  • Bio

.. .. .. .. .. .... .. .. .. Music started at the crib: “The only way to get me to stop crying was to put a radio on the railing of my crib. When a song played that I didn’t like, I knocked the radio off of the rail. When a song played afterward that I did like, I cried until my mother put the radio back.” As early as four years old, Curtis Wayne Hurley had dreams of performing musically, and at seven, he used his mother’s pots and pans as a drum set. A big turning point in his life came at age eleven, when he played a trumpet solo before a packed audience of parents at his elementary school. They went wild when little Curtis played notes at whim, like a seasoned artist who produces albums. At that point Curtis realized: “I can do anything.” In high school, Curtis began a pep band called the Masters of Sound. As a sophomore he wrote his first song for his aunt’s wedding called “Trust.” In college, he was part of three bands: marching, symphonic, and a jazz band called 7th Avenue. As his future approached, he desired to front a band: “I wrote the songs, they played the music, I sang lead.” His style: “I desired the jazz/R&B sound of Mint Condition while telling stories in an abstract fashion like the Dave Matthews Band.” After college, Curtis played with a band called Formula 7, who played the Top 40 while Curtis sang and danced in secular fashion. He found this to be a source of frustration and jealousy: “I was not getting out of it what I was putting into it, because its success was highly dependent on how well I could arouse the attention of the crowd.” Curtis began to find rest when he decided to switch to gospel music: “I listen to the spirit of God. This makes song writing easy, compared to when I was a secular performer.” Curtis does not claim to be prolific (one who writes a lot of songs), but receptive (one empowered by God). “When you are creating songs with the mind of God, there are no limits to what you can do.” Today, Curtis stands on Psalm 40:3 concerning his business endeavors: “And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.” Zion Productions, Inc., based on Psalm 125:1 (“They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever”), is Curtis’ “think-tank” corporation. ZPI is comprised of song writers and producers that make music to honor God, and branches out into plays and movies. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
