About me:
An art collective focussed on cultivating collaboration and creative relationships.
Founded by Component, Enforce1, Flox and Trustme, the Cut Collective aims to work with many like minded creative peeps on a wide variety of art projects with an emphasis on street based work.
Based in Auckland, New Zealand but reaching out to Welly, Melbourne, New York and beyond.
“Paper, Scissors, Stock” is the Cut Collective’s first Auckland show of the year following the major collaborative exhibition ‘Common Ground’ which is still currently running at The New Dowse in Lower Hutt.
It’s back to basics time now, with a print show featuring limited edition silkscreens from the Cut Collective (Component, Enforce1, Flox, Kool & Trustme) and special guests Misery and Brother Charlie.
Join us for the launch of these brand new prints (and some fresh t’s) at CCHQ. 38 Poynton Terrace, behind St Kevin’s arcade. 1st May 2009
Via Grafik (Germany) meets Cut Collective (Aotearoa): 13 Feb - 17 May 2009
Street Art: some see it as a way of reclaiming public space, to others it’s reckless vandalism. Either way street art offers a communication platform in an urban environment otherwise dominated by symbols of the media and advertising. Emerging from the graffiti movement in Europe and the USA in the 80s, street art has gained profile since UK artist Banksy sold recent work for 1 million pound.
Common Ground looks at the phenomenon of street art in two very different countries on opposite sides of the globe - Germany’s art collective and design studio Via Grafik and NZ’s street art crew Cut Collective. The artists walk the line between art and vandalism, creation and disruption; and share a common belief that “if the wall is kept grey, the mind will follow.”
Common Ground is supported by a full series of public programs including New Zealand first LASERTAG events.
13.02.2009 LASERTAG at The New Dowse, 45 Laings Rd Lower Hutt, 8 - 11pm
15.02.2009 Public Debate hosted by Jo Randerson, The New Dowse, 3 - 4pm
21.02.2009 Via Grafik & Cut Collective live at the Cuba Street Carnival, Wellington.
(Bus painting for the parade and Cut Collective will be holding a stall in the market selling art, prints and T-Shirts)

On August 28th the 42Below Month of Street Art kicked off with 'Future shock'. Gallery goers from far and wide convened for the opening shindig at 42Below Space in Central Auckland to see three world renowned Stencil Artists. All the way from New York was Logan Hicks and his incredible multiple layer stencils of city scape's and subways. From Australia came HaHa and Vexta, both acclaimed Artists and innovators of the Melbourne Stencil movement. Images of Streets, Skulls, Skeletons and even a stanch Tama Iti watched over the evenings antics.
The second half of the 42Below Month of Street Art, 'Public Access' opened on September 12th. For the second year running, local Street Art Crew, 'Cut Collective' put on a mind blowing show. Packed with quality work from seven Artists, exhibiting everything from customized tea towels to ukuleles, the gallery was a visual feast. Just half an hour after the doors opened a queue waited out side the front door as the gallery was packed to legal capacity. Cocktails spiked with 42Below flowed freely throughout the evening, accompanied by a steady set of beautiful beats from Dj Junior.
I realize the Illicit link disappears after you friend me, so I thought I’d send a note explaining what I’m all about.
I started this blog because I am obsessed with street art. Although my artistic abilities are lacking, I am an expert street art hunter. In search of other likeminded street art fanatics, I started this blog. Illicit Exhibitions not just a blog about street art. It's a community where creators, appreciators, and everyone in between can come together and share their work and thoughts about art in public spaces.
Check it out at illicitexhibitions. blogspot. com
Want to be interviewed? Have some photos and stories to share? Shoot me a note at illicitexhibitions@gmail.com. Most importantly, if you like what you see, keep reading! I post the link daily through Myspace Bulletins. Throw me in on your Google Reader and keep up with the posts. This project is all about connecting with as many people as possible, so tell your friends and spread the love!
