Minnesota: it's people, music, and rhythm of life... It's a powerful beat, puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet (especially in the winter months!).
The CVS Trio has been playing around the Twin Cities since 2005. They have always brought great melodies that could be compared with Sunny Day Real Estate, Spoon and Elliot Smith. Moving from acoustic shows on the streets of Seattle , to plugging in and transitioning to pure hook-laden rock has pushed their boundaries and helped create the sound they are known and loved for. Improv actor and school teacher Josh Kaplan provides a jazz soaked backdrop beat that can hardly be describes as "backround." Nathan Eliot, who leads the sweet sounding duo Talking Tree, has always had a keen sense for harmonies and perfectly compliments Charlie's vocals as well as providing a Paul McCartney like bounce in his bass notes. Although filling in gaps of sound with only three instruments seems over ambitious to some, working within simpler means has put all the focus on true substance. Charlie’s songs are not your average songs about love and loss. His songs reflect a much more tangible reality. “I can smell the streets, the smoke, the cars and all the cement on the overpass, it’s cold and crass to wake up to it” from the song December explores pure imaginable senses in everyday life. The CVS Trio's songs reflect a life we all live and a way to voice it.
Come grab an advanced copy of the new disc from my fuzzgrunge noisepop band The Sextons, and as always let me know how I can help out with your next tasty record!
I just wanted to stop by and wish you a happy Sunday! I hope that the weekend brought you fun adventures, relaxation, and contentment :)
I was going to go camping this weekend, but this is definitely NOT camping weather. So me and some friends went to check out Dueling Pianos. Those guys are amazing - they can play just about any song that's been on the radio between 1950 and 2005.
Anyways, I wanted to let you know about a show we have @ Station 4 on Friday, October 16th. We are debuting a series of one time only performance art pieces. This one is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". Live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.
Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. The night will be full of creative, interesting, high-energy music, good drinks and good times.
Here's the info:

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:
