I was born in Saskatchewan and named Charles William Shirriff.
For reasons unknown to me I was called, "Bill" until I went to University and then officially became "Charles" - or sometimes "Chuck" by professors trying to be friendly.
I guess this makes me currently schizophrenic because I now go by both Charles and Bill. Or please feel free to call me whatever you like.
I am the author of two novels,
Spirits of a Feather and its sequel,
Souls of a Feather.
Spirits of a Feather
is the fictionalized biography of Jay, a 17 year-old aboriginal who leaves the isolation and abuse of his dysfunctional family in northern Manitoba to find his destiny in the modern metropolis of Winnipeg.
He meets a helpful father figure and friends who introduce him to life in the city including subcultures such as raves, drug use, gay life and ultimately a rich family with an eligible daughter who falls in love with him.
Souls of a Feather is the sequel covering the next year of Jay and Sue as their relationship matures. It follows their spiritual experiences and Jay's coming to grips with his native heritage.
Jay falls in love with Sue, overcomes her rich father's opposition, and they get married with the surprising appearance of friends they didn’t know they had.
The novels have been adapted into a screenplay script.I am still waiting for it to be discovered by a film maker. Feel free to volunteer to turn my vision into reality.
The script can be read (free, of course) at:
