Books
I'm best known for my YA horror, contemporary Native youth fiction, and humorous picture books. My latest release is ETERNAL (Candlewick), a YA Gothic fantasy set in the same universe as TANTALIZE. The two casts will crossover in a forthcoming novel, BLESSED. There also is TANTALIZE: KIEREN'S STORY (Candlewick), a graphic novel in the works. The series is available from Candlewick and Listening Library/Random House in the U.S., Walker UK, and Walker New Zealand and Australia. See my official site at www.cynthialeitichsmith.com.
Here's a peek at TANTALIZE...Here's a peek at my Native American tween novel, RAIN IS NOT MY INDIAN NAME (HarperCollins, 2001)(Listening Library, 2001)...

About me: I'm an author of YA Gothic fantasy novels, children's books, and short stories. My latest release is ETERNAL, a YA Gothic fantasy set in the same universe as TANTALIZE. The two casts will crossover in BLESSED. There also is TANTALIZE: KIEREN'S STORY (Candlewick), a graphic novel in the works. The series is available from Candlewick and Listening Library in the U.S., Walker UK, and Walker New Zealand and Australia.
TANTALIZE was featured at the National Book Festival, a Borders Original Voices choice, and a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age 2008. BookPage says the book "will appeal to fans--both teens and adults--of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'."
ETERNAL received 5 stars from TeensReadToo, which raves "This novel is definitely a page-turner. It is filled with danger, deception, humor, love, sadness, and hope." And Notes from the Horn Book calls it a "witty, dark love story of death and redemption." Note: these are Gothic fantasy novels, (not a paranormal romance genre novels, although those are great).

Oh that sounds like fun. I spent Halloween with my lil brother just like every year. My mom doesn't let him go Trick-or-Treat so instead of leaving with my friends I spend time with him.
So it totally just hit me upside my head when you posted your status, but I just freaking remembered you're from Austin, Texas!!! Will you be there when I visit there next weekend?? And yes, right now I am giving the computer puppy dog eyes. Please, please, please still be in town when I come up!!! It would make my year to meet you!!!
Lol, I actually think I could do well in Texas. My Uncle Fred lives in San Antonio, and we're really close. By the way, I told my mom about you being open to invites next fall, and she said she's talk to her library's branch manager & special events cordinator to try to work something out. (my mom's a big fan too by the way. We read a lot of the same books) I really hope this works out. I'm crossing everthing that can be crossed! XD
Do you have any good Faery book suggestions for me? Not long ago I finished the Wicked Lovely series and I have't been able to find another decent faery book :O
I just finished Eternal and absolutely loved it! Prior to that I read Tantalize and learned I can't eat and read your books at the same time unless I want to choke while laughing. That normally doesn't happen. Very clever and funny books! FYI: it was a peanut m&m and I would have died entertained.
“I believe things happen for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so you can appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually start to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart, so better things can fall together.” - Marilyn Monroe -
I've heard that! So far it's been a really enjoyable experience, but I'll know to look for more suggested edits shortly. ;) I really look forward to reading Blessed. I realized last night my niece absconded with my copy of Eternal the last time she was here. I'm going to beat her. ;) hahaha I always keep my hardbacks... something just so timeless and traditional about them. My novel is coming out first in paperback and depending how it does, in hardback. I hate to admit how disappointed I am by that, but I guess it's just as a precaution in case no one buys it. (eek...) bad, bad thought.
WOW 11 pages? Ok I feel really bad then. The info I just received is only for the first half of the book and it's almost line by line for the book. Soooo.... it's 14 chapters.... approx 8 pages each chapter... (I'm sure you are getting the idea...) But since this is my first novel first real experience with this, I figured that was par for the course until my writing is up to standards. I'm just excited it's going so smoothly (or relatively smoothly). ;) I've heard of some nightmare experiences! I hope to be able to write a sequel to this novel, but I have 4 or 5 others going right now as well that are vying for my attention. My deal is for the first book only, they said we'd negotiate the series if the first does well. It's sort of like a hanging chad... never know which way the vote will go. ;)
Revisions are the HARDEST thing. I just got some suggestions back from the editor. :( Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend! Thank you so much for the add and your kind words. I can't wait for Blessed. I fell in love with your book. How many are you planning in the series?
for now just passin' out candy for the littlies... it's more fun than it sounds; i'll have a few people over at least... should be kinda cool.
Wished i lived in texas lol, if only for that night. Lotta cool people are gonna be there, but i'd go mostly for you and Sandra Brown! =] Haha hope it's fun!
Great to hear from you to, Cyn! And thanks. I'm so exited about the Tantalize graphic novel sketches!!!! I hope Kieren's a dish! (dish as in sexy not the kind you eat off of:) And I guess you forget my asking about how the writing is going with Blessed...unless of couse you are already doing the redrafts -- in that case do feel free to tell all! Wink, wink...
